Job Highlights

Contract: Independent Contractor
Schedule: Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM with 1 hour unpaid lunch break Client Timezone: Sydney, AU
Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive bookkeeping for multiple technology and professional services businesses
  • Execute month-end closing procedures including accruals, reversals, and reconciliations
  • Maintain and work with balance sheets to ensure accuracy
  • Handle day-to-day accounting operations and financial record keeping
  • Collaborate with CFO, external chartered accountants, and other senior finance team members as needed
  • Support preparation of various tax, superannuation, insurance, and compliance requirements (final income tax returns handled externally)
  • Follow established internal accounting processes for expense management, budgets, and end-of-year reporting
  • Contribute to financial due diligence and integration processes for M&A activities
  • Calculate and interpret key industry metrics such as EBITDA, NPAT, and SaaS/technology performance indicators
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and implement best practices

Scope

  • Full-time position (40 hours/week) aligned to Australian business hours
  • Foundation role for building a larger accounting team in the future
  • Will not handle final tax return preparation (managed by external accountants)

Requirements

  • Mid-level accounting experience with proven competency across bookkeeping, accrual accounting, and balance sheet management
  • CPA certification preferred (not mandatory if skills are demonstrated)
  • Strong knowledge of Australian and New Zealand accounting standards and tax requirements
  • Experience preparing tax and compliance documentation (excluding final income tax returns)
  • Industry experience in software-as-a-service, professional services, or technology reselling preferred
  • Proficiency in Xero accounting software, Syft Analytics, Excel, and Google Sheets
  • Experience with financial metrics relevant to technology and SaaS businesses
  • Interest in M&A and exposure to acquisition-related finance processes a plus
  • Ability to work Australian business hours (approximately 2-hour time difference from the Philippines) with some flexibility
  • Strong communication skills for remote collaboration
  • Immediate start preferred (ASAP to September timeframe)
  • Bonus: Experience with automation platforms such as N8N
