Description

The New England College of Optometry’s (NECO) Center for Eye Care is seeking an experienced, licensed optician to join our vibrant optical center located on Commonwealth Avenue. This fast-paced, patient-centered clinic provides comprehensive, high-quality optical services including frame and lens selection, fittings, contact lenses, and in-house edging.


We are looking for a motivated optician with a track record of success in retail optical environments who can work independently and collaboratively as part of a teaching optical clinic. The ideal candidate will be comfortable supporting student education and managing daily optical operations when needed. The Optician will have demonstrated experience managing the multifaceted set of relationships between optometrists, opticians, optical companies and managed vision care plans (insurance).


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional service in frame and lens selection, fittings, and dispensing of optical devices
  • Independently manage day-to-day optical operations during assigned shifts
  • Collaborate closely with the lead optician and clinical faculty to support workflow and student learning
  • Supervise and mentor optometry students in their optical rotations
  • Interpret and maximize benefits across a range of managed vision care plans
  • Review and approve all optical material orders to ensure quality, accuracy, and revenue optimization
  • Operate edging equipment in the on-site lab and ensure safety and precision in fabrication
  • Utilize EHR (Compulink) and online ordering platforms to maintain workflow efficiency
  • Track and report sales data, patient capture rates, and key performance indicators
  • Perform additional administrative duties as needed

Qualifications

  • Active Massachusetts Optician License
  • Proven experience as a dispensing optician in a clinical or retail setting
  • Strong knowledge of vision insurance billing and ordering systems
  • Comfortable using Electronic Health Records (ideally Compulink)
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining collaboration with a broader clinical team
  • Must be available to work 1–2 Saturdays per month (8:00 AM – 2:00 PM)
