LifeSouth is a non-profit community blood bank serving more than 150 hospitals in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. We are committed to meeting the blood supply needs of hospitals and their patients by providing the highest quality blood components and services. With more than 45 donor centers, 55 bloodmobiles and 2,000 blood drives a month, our LifeSouth team is dedicated to making sure the blood is there when you or your family is in need.


Our mission is to provide a safe blood supply that meets or exceeds the needs in each community we serve, and to provide a variety of services in support of ongoing and emerging blood and transfusion related activities.


We are currently seeking an individual to join our team as Director of Finance in Gainesville, FL. This position is responsible for ensuring the stability of LifeSouth’s finances through planning, directing, and controlling financial functions, including establishing appropriate control environments, financial reports for management on the company’s financial status, preparing financial reports and analysis, and overseeing the development and implementation of effective financial and accounting systems.


Key Responsibilities

- Provide financial advice and guidance to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

- Drive the financial planning of the company by analyzing its performance and risks

- Retain constant awareness of the company’s financial position and act to prevent problems

- Oversee budgeting and the implementation of budgets to monitor progress and present financial metrics both internally and externally

- Manage accounting and financial systems and maintain full and accurate accounting records

- Conduct financial analysis and prepare detailed financial reports and statements

- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements

- Develop and implement purchasing practices and monitor the purchasing system

- Prepare tender documents and administer contracts

- Respond to auditors’ comments concerning finances and operations and oversee required action to address deficiencies

- Establish and maintain cash controls

- Implement plan for investments and reserves as directed by the Board

- Monitor spending and recommend corrective actions as necessary

- Evaluate the performance of and provide training and development opportunities for the Accounting and Purchasing departments

- Manage the maintenance and upgrade of financial and payroll information systems

- Provide leadership by delegating tasks, responding to staff inquiries, and providing overall direction to employees


Skills and Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred

- At least five years of related financial experience, including at least two years of management experience required

- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred

- Blood banking and healthcare experience preferred

- Excellent customer service skills

- Ability to prepare financial statements and reports

- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles

- Ability to work independently and handle multiple assignments concurrently

- Strong analytic skills

- Ability to supervise staff and delegate tasks effectively
