Description

Job Summary: Performs as an instructor in a regular classroom setting, presenting instructions in designated subject areas.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to all Department of Labor Policy Requirements and Career Systems Development Corporation policies and procedures, and the Center Operating Procedures.
  • Records attendance at the beginning of each class period and forwards daily attendance to the Student Records area. Ensures complete and accurate reporting of attendance in compliance with the Companies Quality Assurance Plan and Procedures (QAPP). 
  • Prepares reports and documents, files observations of student’s behavior, performance, notable information or events, and progress towards achieving goals and objectives in CIS case notes and on Center forms. Reports all significant behavioral incidents immediately to supervisor.
  • Maintains confidentiality but reports significant events or situations immediately through approved channels to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of students and staff, and to ensure that required reporting occurs, and that students receive emergency services as needed.
  • Facilitates prompt and appropriate assistance to students in the event of injury, illness, or emotional trauma.
  • Meets individually with students assigned to their area responsibility at a minimum of once each month documenting the meetings in case notes.
  • Responsible for helping students achieve Tests of Adult Basic Education gains in assigned subject areas, and/or HSD/HSE attainment. Responsible for helping students achieve academic gain and High School Diploma/High School Equivalency obtainment.
  • Responsible for meeting monthly department goals and objectives as assigned by department manager.
  • Utilizes provided curriculum resources, implements new curriculum, and develops curriculum through Educational Learning Plans.
  • Responsible to set short- and long-term learning goals and track student performance and achievement.
  • Assesses and makes recommendations on student awards as approved within the Centers student incentive plan.
  • Assists in the completion of all necessary Job Corps forms and entering case notes at least once a month for each student assigned.
  • Responsible for following security measures to ensure that equipment, curriculum, tests, and supplies are secured to safeguard government property and protect the integrity of student testing.
  • Prepares Evaluations of Student Performance (ESP) in a timely manner. May sit on student evaluation panels and serve as a member of the student’s Case Management team.
  • Monitors and reviews daily each student’s progress to ensure students are making adequate progress and preforming their own work reports any incidents of cheating.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree. Certified to teach in the state in which center is located. (RO may waive if the center is unable to hire a certified teacher, but the candidate must actively pursue certification along an agreed upon timeframe).

Preferred: Master Degree in Education, One year in a teaching capacity with disadvantaged youth.

Knowledge: Knowledge of required subject area, excellent communication skills, both oral and written, excellent organizational skills, must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification, ability to motivate and inspire students, ability to effectively relate to student population.
