Junior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer - Azure Government & Defense
We're seeking a motivated Junior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to support and learn the design, implementation, and maintenance of our cloud infrastructure with a focus on Azure Government cloud and Department of Defense (DoD) requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in deploying and managing cloud architectures using Azure Government cloud platform
- Manage and maintain RabbitMQ message queuing systems including clustering, configuration, and performance monitoring
- Learn and contribute to infrastructure as code using Terraform and Terragrunt for modular, reusable configurations
- Support GitLab CI/CD pipeline development and maintenance for automated infrastructure deployment
- Monitor system performance, assist with troubleshooting, and help optimize resource utilization
- Learn and apply DoD security standards, NIST frameworks, and FedRAMP requirements
- Collaborate with senior engineers and development teams to support scalable, reliable application infrastructure
Required Qualifications:
- 1-2 years experience with Azure cloud platform (Azure Government experience preferred)
- Active Secret security clearance
- Security+ certification or other DoD 8140 approved certification
- Hands-on experience with RabbitMQ administration, clustering, and troubleshooting
- Basic understanding of infrastructure as code concepts (Terraform experience preferred)
- Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and GitLab or similar platforms
- Basic knowledge of containerization technologies (Podman, Kubernetes)
- Foundational scripting skills (Python, Bash)
- Interest in learning DoD security frameworks and compliance requirements
- Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn
- Ability to travel regularly for on-site work at Ft. Meade or Crystal City locations
Preferred:
- Azure fundamentals certification or working toward Azure certifications
- Experience with other message brokers and enterprise integration patterns
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana)
- Basic understanding of networking and security concepts
- Educational background in Computer Science, IT, or related field
- Previous internship or project experience with cloud technologies
- Familiarity with version control systems (Git)
