Shift/Schedule: Full Time (36 hrs/wk)
GENERAL SUMMARY
Works under the direction of the Nurse Manager of Cancer and Infusion Services. The RN's primary job function is to perform patient assessment and develop a plan of care, data collection, patient/family education, and ongoing follow up. The RN performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
• Graduate from accredited school of nursing required
Licensure:
• Licensed to practice as an RN in Ohio required
• Oncology Nursing Certification preferred. If RN is not OCN they are required to obtain 12 oncology CEU’s yearly.
• Vascular Access Board Certification preferred
• Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification is required within 90 days of initial employment
• BLS within 90 days of hire required
Experience:
• One to two years nursing experience with oncology and/or infusion experience preferred
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Gathers medical information in preparation for patient visits.
2. Rounds and assists in the generalized operation of provider clinics.
3. Refers to and/or coordinates patient enrollment in clinical trials.
4. Prepares, participates and/or administers nurse education and cancer conferences as assigned.
5. Completes nursing assessment and documents appropriately in the EMR.
6. Provides patient/family education.
7. Monitors IV's, provides care, assesses for acute and chronic side effects.
8. Schedules or assigns schedule of appropriate tests or upcoming appointments and distributes accordingly.
9. Collaborates with other members of patient care team to maintain a service oriented environment for patients, families, staff, and medical staff.
10. Reviews patients' EMR for completeness.
11. Maintains steady traffic flow in the clinic.
12. Uses discretion with mobile devices such as cell phones in patient care areas. Limits use of social media to after hours, breaks or lunch periods.
13. Maintains familiarity related to generalized infusion of chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, oral chemotherapy, blood products, injections or other medications as prescribed by provider.
14. Performs low to intermediate-level disinfection and/or high level disinfection per Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained, and stored per the IFU’s.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.
