Position Summary

We are seeking a Temporary Special Education Advisor to provide part-time support during the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) 2025 Cyclical Monitoring process. This role is essential in ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, strengthening staff capacity through professional development, and providing strategic coaching to the Special Education Department.

Position Type: Temporary, Part-Time
Duration: August 7, 2025 – December 31, 2025
Hours: 20–29 hours per week (with required availability during key meetings and monitoring dates; flexible scheduling for remaining hours)
Location: Remote/Hybrid (as needed)
Reports To: Director of Special Education

Key Responsibilities

PDE Cyclical Monitoring Support

• Assist the Director of Special Education and school teams in preparing for PDE cyclical monitoring.
• Review and provide feedback on compliance documentation.
• Support internal audits of special education records and processes.
• Participate in PDE-related activities such as interviews, focus groups, or engagement sessions.
• Provide guidance on timelines, compliance indicators, and corrective action plans (CAPs).
  
  

Professional Development & Training

• Develop and deliver virtual and in-person training sessions for special education staff.
• Create targeted professional development focused on:
• FAPE and IEP development/implementation
• Goals, Specially Designed Instruction, and Progress Monitoring
• Produce asynchronous resources such as guides, slide decks, and checklists.

Coaching & Strategic Advising

• Provide bi-weekly coaching sessions for the Special Education Department.
• Offer strategic support in compliance leadership, supervision strategies, and workflow planning.
• Provide ad hoc advisory support via email or virtual meetings.

Expected Deliverables

• PDE Monitoring Readiness Plan
• Compliance checklists and feedback reports
• Training materials and professional development sessions
• Coaching logs and strategic planning notes
• Final summary report with accomplishments and recommendations

Qualifications

• Pennsylvania Special Education or Principal Certification required; PDE/BSE experience or special education advising preferred
• Experience with PDE cyclical monitoring processes
• In-depth knowledge of IDEA, Chapter 14, and Chapter 711 regulatory guidelines to meet federal and PDE compliance requirements
• Strong facilitation, coaching, and communication skills
• Experience in virtual or charter school environments preferred
