The Role:
We are looking for a talented and detail-oriented Garment Technologist specialising in multi-product ladieswear to join our dynamic team. You will play a critical role in ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality products that exceed customer expectations and meet all specification requirements. Your expertise will be vital in supporting our design and product teams to maintain the highest quality standards while driving commercial success.

Key Responsibilities:

Review and Research:

  • Conduct seasonal block reviews collaboratively with the buying team to ensure product ranges align with brand expectations.
  • Regularly update the specifications library informed by customer feedback and industry benchmarks.
  • Analyse market trends and competitor products to ensure our ranges meet customer demands and stay competitive.
  • Maintain an innovative and profitable product range by reviewing competitors’ accessories and garments to recommend the best fit solutions for customers.

Product Development and Quality Assurance:

  • Oversee the development and selection processes to ensure consistency in product quality and commercial viability aligned with Buying and Merchandising strategies.
  • Identify potential risks at product sign-off stages and collaborate with buyers and suppliers to mitigate issues proactively.
  • Ensure product specifications and tech packs are delivered on time while raising any potential issues early.
  • Work closely with the design team to enable cost-effective product engineering that aligns with market and customer needs.
  • Maintain and manage the spec library for core and fashion styles.
  • Ensure suppliers are fully briefed on quality and technical standards to comply with legal, ethical, and corporate requirements.
  • Address quality concerns reported from stores swiftly and implement corrective actions, reporting critical issues to the line manager.
  • Collaborate with overseas Quality Assurance teams through training and factory audits to uphold brand standards.

Strategy and Supplier Management:

  • Lead initiatives related to customer returns, developing corrective action plans to reduce recurrence and improve product performance.
  • Support cost management decisions to align with departmental budgets and company goals.
  • Ensure compliance with commercial, legal, and ethical standards across all supplier dealings.
  • Conduct factory technical process audits overseas as required to maintain supplier quality standards.
  • Support sourcing efforts with an emphasis on quality, value, and continuity.
  • Build strong, proactive relationships with suppliers through regular communication and collaboration.

Range Planning and Build:

  • Work closely with buying and merchandising teams to ensure styles are fitted and sealed on schedule, respecting critical path deadlines.
  • Ensure factory compliance with customer technical requirements to prevent delays.
  • Confirm all active suppliers meet technical standards and undergo required ethical and technical audits.
  • Enforce strict adherence to process and key delivery dates.

Leadership:

  • Line manage, motivate, and inspire technical and departmental teams, fostering clear communication and a positive work culture.
  • Conduct performance reviews, set objectives, and maintain regular one-on-one meetings to ensure team development.
  • Lead by example with behaviours aligned to company culture.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and professional development for team members.
  • Drive continuous process improvements and embrace new technologies where appropriate.

Candidate Profile:

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Technology or related discipline is essential.
  • Additional certifications in product safety or quality assurance are advantageous.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with fabric technology, pattern cutting knowledge, and a broad product understanding.
  • Proven track record of working effectively with offshore suppliers.
  • Experience in value retail multi-product environments preferred.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:

  • Proficient in PC applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Expertise in consumer product safety legislation and ability to balance compliance with commercial viability.
  • Strong capability in fit and seal processes with clear, actionable fit comments.
  • Understanding of product testing and its impact on customer experience.
  • Skilled in creating and maintaining detailed product specifications and tech packs.
  • Familiarity with product development lifecycle from concept to production.
