About the Role:
The Senior Director of Engineering, Core Trade will work with our core trading engineering team and lead the OMS applications. The proper candidate will have experience building Java applications and working in a highly available, scalable, low-latency, and high-throughput environment. You’ll work with cutting-edge technologies to re-engineer our mission-critical trading stack to be industrial-grade. Deep expertise with the FIX protocol is critical, including designing institutional-grade FIX gateways, engines, and parsers, and ensuring redundancy, high throughput, and reliability in production. We seek someone who has exceptional attention to detail and values simplicity over complexity in code and communication. You’ll work directly with the business, product, quants, our trade desk, and vendors. You should be opinionated about what you build and offer constructive criticism on things you didn’t. You’ll be able to think quickly and critically in understanding cross-impacts and solving difficult problems in real-time.
What You'll Do:
- Lead the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of OMS trading applications
- Collaborate closely with trading teams, product, quants, risk, compliance, architects, devOps, and cross-functional groups to translate business requirements into technical solutions that meets DriveWealth’s architectural standards for scale, redundancy, and resiliency
- Write easy-to-understand technical documentation for implementing mission-critical complicated business projects
- Ensure that solutions are meeting DriveWealth's best practices in design and architecture
- Develop enhancements to existing Java applications as well as build new applications from the ground up
- Monitor production systems, troubleshoot issues, and assist in remediation fixes
- Work with the broker dealer operations teams to support and enhance the trading system
- Manage a small team of engineers, including prioritizing team resources to meet DriveWealth deliverables on schedule
- Own one or more small to medium-sized projects/applications
- Manage and collaborate across teams on project priorities and coordinates deliverables
What You'll Need
- Experience with low-latency, high-throughput distributed systems
- Experience with multithreading and concurrency in Java
- Expertise working with the FIX protocol
- Strong knowledge of Java fundamentals, data structures, and best practices for modern software development
- Must understand how to write effective unit and integration tests
- Experience with a 24x7, highly-available, architecture
- Advanced technical writing skills
- Strong communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience with Python scripting for the automation of tasks
- Experience supporting multiple complicated trading stacks
- An understanding of “what good looks like” based on your prior experience
Nice To Have, Not Required:
- Experience working with React and Typescript
- Understanding of JMS and message brokers such as Kafka and ActiveMQ
- Experience with Aeron or other point-to-point network communication
- Experience with POSTGRES database environments
- Experience with Amazon Web Services

Compensation
Compensation package offerings are based on candidate experience and technical qualifications, as it relates to the role. These are identified and determined throughout your interviewing experience.
Please note: this role is expected to come into our office on a cadence set by the Hiring Manager/Team.
