What Operations Management contributes to Cardinal Health

Operations is responsible for materials handling and product distribution in a distribution or manufacturing environment. Includes warehousing and fulfillment of materials and products, transportation, inventory management as well as demand, supply and manufacturing planning.

Operations Management is responsible for strategic oversight and leadership direction within the Operations function.

Qualifications

  • 8-12 years of experience, preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred

  • Manages department operations and supervises professional employees, front line supervisors and/or business support staff
  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures to achieve specific goals
  • Ensures employees operate within guidelines
  • Decisions have a short term impact on work processes, outcomes and customers
  • Interacts with subordinates, peers, customers, and suppliers at various management levels; may interact with senior management
  • Interactions normally involve resolution of issues related to operations and/or projects
  • Gains consensus from various parties involved

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee outbound operations across multiple shifts and teams.
  • Ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment, packaging, and shipping.
  • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly performance metrics (e.g., shipping accuracy, on-time delivery).
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., receiving, inventory, customer service) to ensure smooth workflow.

Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop front-line managers and hourly associates.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Foster a positive and safe work environment.
  • Schedule and staff shifts to meet workload demands.

Process Improvement

  • Analyze data to identify opportunities for cost reduction, productivity improvement, and damage mitigation.
  • Implement best practices in warehouse management systems (WMS), RF technology, and material handling.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and support strategic projects.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety and accountability.

Skills

  • Strong leadership and team-building capabilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and warehouse management systems.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
