About the role
As an Early Intervention (EI) Specialist, you will educate employers about the activities they can undertake to facilitate and support a worker’s recovery while their claim is being assessed. You will educate employers about the claims process, their obligations, and the strategies that assist employees in getting back to work sooner.
The early intervention role within the eligibility team aims to provide early intervention services from the moment a claim has been received. This includes but is not limited to the following:
- Advising an employer and worker of their obligations under the Act
- Supporting employers in understanding how to identify suitable duties and plan for a proposed or actual RTW
- Supporting workers in understanding the RTW process
- Identifying the barriers in a worker’s recovery and RTW
- Communicating with THPs, if required, to gain additional information relating to the recovery and RTW process
- Engaging different OR services based on the specific circumstances of a claim
- Ongoing communication with the employer, worker and ORP during the claim assessment period
- Providing a handover to the case manager if liability is accepted
As an EI Specialist, you must have the following:
- Knowledge of the worker's compensation claims process and legislation
- Understanding of the link between early intervention and positive return to work outcomes
- Solid verbal and written communication skills
Other highly desirable skills include:
- Experience in worker's compensation (case management role highly regarded)
- A rehab background would be helpful for this role (not essential)
- Ability to influence employers to have ongoing and constructive engagement with injured workers
- Time management / organisational skills
