Meet the team:
The Shopping & Rewards Knowledge team owns a portfolio of critical components including Honey Extension, Product Catalog, Search & Recommendation engine, Customer SKU preferences and more. We are a frequent partner in multiple strategic business initiatives.

Job Description:

As a Staff engineer on Honey Extension team, you would be involved in developing new features, improving existing ones, and resolving bugs in our Extension(s), micro-services, and batch jobs.

You will also engage in operational excellence activities, including on-call support, performance monitoring, and documentation. Collaboration with our Product team in an agile environment will be essential as you guide features from initial concept to final launch.

Additionally, you will engage in code reviews to uphold code quality and foster shared knowledge while working alongside other teams across PayPal Shopping and Rewards to ensure transparency and effective delivery.

You will also be part of a team with unique culture of collaboration, expectations to learn but also to mentor others, grow as a contributor and win as a team.

As a Staff engineer you would get opportunity to work on strategic, high-impact projects and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams. Your day-to-day responsibilities often include:

  • Designing and Architecting Solutions

    • Architect and design solutions while leading module, application, or product development.

    • Collaborate with global cross-functional engineering teams to align on solution design and implementation.

    • Stay informed on industry trends and explore new technologies to drive innovation

  • Mentorship and Leadership:

    • Mentor and coach junior engineers, uphold code quality, and perform code reviews.

    • Conduct knowledge sharing sessions with team.

  • Collaboration and Communication:

    • Identify any product/functionality gaps and collaborate with product and technology teams to define the necessary development to support solution delivery.

    • Drive integration efforts and lead critical work streams of strategic initiatives sponsored by leadership.

  • Operational excellence:

    • Take a proactive approach to identifying and resolving integration or technical issues.

    • Promote engineering excellence through automation and tooling.

    • Participate in operational excellence meetings and on-call rotations.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.

  • Experience: 5+ years in software engineering with expertise in distributed systems & micro services architecture.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Strong programming skills in JavaScript/Node.js & familiarity with Golang or Python is helpful.

    • Experience with React

    • Experience with cloud computing systems (GCP, AWS, etc.) 

    • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, CircleCI, and Git. 

    • Experience with GraphQL, REST APIs, and supporting network protocols  

    • Familiarity with SQL & NoSQL databases.

    • Experience working on browser extension (Chrome, Safari, Mobile Safari etc) is helpful.

    • Familiarity with monitoring tools like DataDog & Sentry is helpful.

The US national annual pay range for this role is $123,500 to $212,850
