Description

The Coordinator - Playroom will be responsible for the daily operations of the Playroom Department to provide a safe and friendly environment for all members, staff and children. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to; implementing age-appropriate activities, supervising the Playroom Attendants as well as the Playroom Supervisors, creating a liaison between the day, evening and weekend shifts, and relaying all pertinent information to the Sr. Director of Youth & Family.  Flexibility of schedule is required, with a concentrated focus on morning/afternoon and weekend hours.  

 

CORE  EXPECTATIONS:  

  •  PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT 

  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands the program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.  

  •  STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT 

  •  Recruiting, hiring, training, managing, developing & coaching Playroom staff.  Scheduling, and directing staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff. Ensures records of Playroom staff certifications/trainings are current and complete.  

  •  MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT 

  • Builds relationships with and among members, responds to inquiries and solves problems.  Creates a supportive community environment, assists in recruiting and engaging new members, and connects members to the YMCA’s cause.   

  •  FACILITY MANAGEMENT 

  • Works with appropriate branch staff to provide program facilities for members that are clean, adequately equipped, well maintained, and attractive. 

  •  VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT 

  • Builds, develops, and supports volunteer capacity in the Playroom. 

  •  COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SUPPORT 

  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities/events, and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A minimum of 2 years experience working with children and families.   

  • A bachelor’s degree or related experience in child development, human services, early childhood education or related field is desirable.  Previous YMCA experience is preferred, especially in the area of child development. 

  • The ability to develop positive, effective working relationships with staff, volunteers and members is important to this position.   

  • Effective communication skills, the ability to deliver good member service and a high level of enthusiasm are required. 

  • Proven supervisory skills in hiring, training, evaluating, and motivating staff are important to this position. 

  • Must also have the ability to take initiative and respond to a variety of situations and manage several tasks and projects at the same time while working in a fast paced environment. 

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and Excel.  

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for extended period of time, walk, lift, and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear, and have visual acuity.
