Description

Position Summary:

Intensive Reading Intervention Initiative is an Evidence-Based Strategy developed by the National Center for Improving Literacy. This 3-pronged strategy incorporates the Principles of Effective Reading Intervention. The framework integrates 1. Intensified Instructional Delivery 2. Increased Learning Time 3. Reduced Instructional Group Size

Essential Job Functions:

  • Working alongside and under the direction of the Reading Program Director and the campus administrative staff, the Ella Austin Reading Intervention Staff will integrate the Intensive Reading Intervention Initiative throughout the academic school year for the 1st - 5th grade classes from Monday - Friday.
  • Monthly planning / strategy sessions with the campus administrative staff, campus Reading Specialists, and Ella Austin Reading Intervention Staff (Reading Intervention Committee) will provide the intensified TEKS-based instructional delivery and curriculum required in the change the literacy behaviors of the 1st - 5th grade reading classes.
  • With this intensified TEKS-based instructional delivery and curriculum, the Ella Austin Staff will report to campus and provide one-on-one and reduced instructional group size reading sessions throughout the academic day under the guidance of the Reading Program Director systematically increasing learning time. Students’ Fountas & Pannell levels and MAP scores will be entered and monitored in an Excel chart.

 

  • Utilizing enhancing technologies such as IPads, computers, and smart boards increases reading intervention efforts while exposing children to the essential digital and media tools necessary for their future advancement in the 21st century

 

  • Reading Intervention Specialists execute strategies outlined in the Intensive Intervention For Students Struggling In Reading Practice Guide by the Center on Instruction.

Participate in occasional evening events such as science, math night, and Meet the Teacher.

 

  • Reach out to parents by phone or e-mail in ongoing family engagement.

 

  • Embrace and embody the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision and goals of WestCare Foundation; and

 

  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Teacher Certification

 

Education:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree

 

Experience and Competencies:

 

  • Minimum of 12-months experience working with youth in school (private or public), day camp, youth groups, or other settings. Ability to assess crisis situations and provide intervention and other behavior modification procedures when needed is essential.

 

  • Adherence to the highest standard of ethical conduct, especially to standards governing confidentiality

 

  • Professional appearance and demeanor
