Position Summary:
Treat and maintain the boiler and cooling water systems to ensure safe and proper operation of the plant. Oversee plant wastewater treatment.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitors system water chemistry by performing chemical tests and treats water systems to maintain ideal chemistry to include the following: boiler water, city water, process water, potable water, wastewater, cooling water, leachate (as required), as well as daily specific gravity of slurry, dilution water (pH, chlorides, conductivity)
- Trains plant personnel in testing and treating water systems and reviews their test results.
- Monitors and documents water system performance to optimize performance and equipment life.
- Make sure all lab equipment is calibrated on time and ready to use.
- Control Lab inventory. Place orders to maintain proper amount of chemicals onsite.
- Coordinates and ensures that water system performance complies with all federal, state, county, and municipal regulations, including reporting procedures.
- Submits material requisitions for water testing supplies, equipment, and chemicals.
- Schedules and coordinates the delivery, loading/unloading, and inventory management of environmental chemicals, including but not limited to Lime, NoxOut, and Carbon.
- Performs maintenance on water system equipment, including daily calibration of test equipment.
- Coordinates treatment with consultants, vendors, and chemical company representatives.
- Performs re-generations on de-mineralizer equipment and ensures that quality water is produced.
- Maintains the water lab in a clean, neat, and orderly condition always.
- Must acquire knowledge of the de-mineralizing/RO water system and condensate polishing system, and the ability to operate associated equipment.
- Must acquire knowledge of chemical balances in both the boiler and cooling water systems.
- Completes the Corporate and Plant Training Programs within the time frame prescribed.
- Follows standard safety procedures, corrects safety and environmental hazards, and reports them to the Shift Supervisor immediately. Reads, understands, and applies information such as, lockout/tagout procedures, safety rules, job hazard analyses, operating and maintenance instructions, MSDS manuals and procedure manuals.
- Work overtime.
- Communicates clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing; as well as communicates clearly whether using in-situ intercom system, two-way radio, or face to face.
- Anticipates typical problems, identifies potential or recurring problems, and takes appropriate action. Troubleshoots equipment and assist in diagnosing problem areas.
- Operates other equipment including, but not limited to, industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer type loaders, and other mobile equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (accredited)
- Math skills sufficient to complete required job functions
- Knowledge and understanding of the operation and control of a steam generating power plant
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Must be able to work overtime, odd and unscheduled hours as required, and share on-call duties
- Computer skills should include Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, and possibly Tabware
