Shift Lead – Technical Control Facility (TCF)
Seeking a Technical Control Facility (TCF) Shift Lead to manage technical operations during assigned shifts in a high-availability, mission-critical environment. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise in networking and TCF operations, combined with proven leadership and shift coordination experience. This position requires direct technical support, mentoring junior personnel, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring continuous mission support in a 24/7 operational environment.
Key Leadership Role:
• Lead a team of technicians or engineers during assigned shifts.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for all escalated technical issues.
• Ensure operational readiness through shift briefings, task assignment, and workflow prioritization.
• Maintain situational awareness and enforce adherence to SOPs, security policies, and operational timelines.
• Coordinate closely with off-shift leads, senior management, external partners, and military stakeholders to ensure seamless operational continuity.
Preferred Experience:
Candidates with the following qualifications are strongly preferred:
• Experience leading or operating within a Technical Control Facility (TCF) or 24/7 network operations environment.
• Proficiency in circuit provisioning, cable flow documentation, and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with infrastructure and signal routing within Building 400, MOD 3/4 at Schriever AFB.
• Working knowledge of:
◦ Patch panels, fiber distribution panels, and other cross-connect systems
◦ Circuit layout, trouble tickets, and signal flow documentation
◦ Timing and synchronization systems, and use of test equipment such as T-BERD or Fireberd
• Experience interfacing with DISA, commercial carriers, and documenting circuit transitions.
• Knowledge of COMSEC, KG encryptors, information assurance, and DISN procedures.
Education and Experience:
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
OR
• An additional 2+ years of applicable experience in lieu of a degree.
Certifications
• CompTIA Security+ Required (required to meet DoD 8570 compliance)
• CompTIA Network+ Preferred
Clearance:
• Must possess an active DoD Secret Clearance
Additional Workload and Cross-Utilization Responsibilities:
This position includes cross-functional duties beyond the standard role. The TCF will provide after-hours support for both the Global Broadcast Operations Center (GBOC) and the Space Defense Interface Network (SDIN). Technicians will be trained to handle these responsibilities, which include fielding user support calls, monitoring system status, and escalating issues to the on-call engineer when necessary. Due to the expanded scope, this role includes increased compensation considerations.
Work Schedule:
• This is a shift lead position supporting a rotating shift schedule, including:
◦ Days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
• Shifts rotate on a structured basis to ensure 24/7 operational coverage.
• Candidates must demonstrate:
◦ Leadership flexibility, technical dependability, and a strong mission-first mindset.
Plans, evaluates, designs, and coordinates installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication networks such as local area (LAN), wide area (WAN), and virtual private networks (VPN), etc. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of networks and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, switches, firewalls, proxies, etc. Provides regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long-range planning for in-house and cloud-based systems. May coordinate third-party maintenance for network equipment. May design a network or a portion that includes selecting and recommending hardware and software packages. Requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2-4 years of experience in a related or applicable field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
