IMMEDIATE OPENING:  Girls Volleyball Head Coach  Part-time beginning August/2025-26 school year
Position Overview Head-Royce School in Oakland is looking for a Girls Volleyball Head Coach for the fall season.  Our Volleyball season starts on August 26th. This is a part-time position; no teaching position is available.
Head-Royce is a private, co-educational K-12 school located in Oakland and supports one of the best small-school athletics programs in the Bay Area.
Successful candidates possess the passion, energy, knowledge of tennis and desire to continue the tradition of our successful athletic programs.  They must have the leadership and organizational skills to manage a team of driven and high-performing student-athletes and the communication skills to relate to the current generation of student-athletes, our athletics administration and families.
Team practices take place from roughly 2:30pm - 5:30pm four days a week (with no weekends).  We host home matches on campus.  We ask our coach(es) to drive school vans to away matches.  The season starts on 8/16 and ends on 10/27.  

Responsibilities:

  • Equipment Each coach is charged with the responsibility of monitoring students to insure that they take proper care of issued uniforms, equipment, and supplies. The coach is responsible for the collection and return of all uniforms, equipment, and supplies at the conclusion of the season.
  • Participation Coaches have the obligation to respect every sport and to encourage students toward full participation. At no time should any student be encouraged to forego one sport in favor of another except at the student’s own discretion.
  • Officials Coaches are to respect and support game officials at all times.
  • Assistant Coaches An assistant coach supports the head coach at all times when communicating with players, other students, parents, and faculty members. Public criticism of other coaches is always inappropriate and unacceptable.
  • Coaches Certification All coaches who work at Head-Royce School must complete and pass a Coaches Certification course.  Courses may be taken online, or in a classroom. Organizations that sponsor approved courses are NFHS, and ASEP. Coaches must possess a current Red Cross CPR/First Aid Card.

Qualifications

  • A valid California driver's license; CPR and 1st-Aid training (or willingness to gain proficiency) and TB test and fingerprints clearance prior to coaching.  
  • Additionally, a California Coaching Certification is mandated by the state for all High School coaches (for which there is a short grace period). We have a stipend available for the season at competitive pay.
