SUMMARY:

Provides construction site advisory during initial installation of windows/doors to ensure proper opening preparation, product installation and water management techniques are performed as detailed in the Pella shop drawings and installation instructions. Independent, proficient and proactive in making critical decisions to alter and improve the installation method as deemed necessary during the job site visit to insure structurally sound and water-tight installations and minimize liabilities for Pella Corporation. Provides Pella representation at on-site air and water infiltration testing. Pro-actively communicates with appropriate personnel in Architectural Solutions, customer service and product engineering teams to ensure timely resolution of any issues. Provides on-site assistance as requested by Pella sales staff with field-measuring and installation method determination. Creates a thorough report documenting on-site witnessed activities, decisions and follow-up items.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

· Provides feed-back to Architectural Solutions from experiences learned in the field to improved installation methods and efficiency of installation shop drawings, reducing liabilities and therefore promoting customer satisfaction.

· Provides feed-back to product engineering from experience learned in the field relating to product performance during air and water testing.

· Acts as a team captain for assigned projects, working with Architectural Engineer, Senior Technicians and drafters to analyze architectural plans and specifications and design appropriate product installations to assure quality services are provided in a timely manner.

Product Installation Field Advisory Support:

· Provides field installation advisory support as requested by distributor or Field Services and Solutions Manager to insure proper product application by branch or others installation crews. This may include initial installation supervision and/or field measuring and installation design analysis for window replacement projects.

· Assists all Pella sales channels, providing product installation support to insure adequate product applications and interpretation of Architectural Services Installation Shop Drawings.

· Prepares complete “Field Report and Follow-up” upon return from field trips and communicates to all involve. Maintains in house complete documented Field Trip Files including pictures and follow up letters. When required these files will be made available to the Legal Team of Pella Corporation.

· Understands and complies with on-site safety practices including appropriate OSHA safety training requirements as required.

Internal Support to Architectural Solutions:

· Assists Product Application Engineers in the direction and training of Architectural Project Drafters. Provides direction and assistance for drafters and reviews drawings developed by them to ensure accuracy. Recommends policy changes on Installation

Shop Drawings as well as preliminary reviews to insure quality performance of installation. Suggests design solutions and works with Product Application Engineers, senior technicians and drafters to implement designs into Installation Shop Drawings documents.

· Reviews project Code compliance to avoid liabilities to Pella Corporation. Assist Architectural Solutions Team in the preparation of model mock-ups of proposed complex installations to determine installation feasibility and performance, coordinates laboratory testing if required

· Educates distributors and Pella Corporation personnel regarding installation and product issues, including conducting training seminars, with an emphasis on improving customer satisfaction and preventing future installation issues.

· Support with Engineering Product Test Laboratory:

· Coordinates with Test Laboratory technicians in the preparation of Architectural Services Department “performance installation tests, “ as required for new accessories and or new methods of installation. Maintains a complete documentation file, with reports, pictures and results. Coordinates with Pella Branches in the preparation of performance testing, when a project specification requires in-house installation testing to ensure comprehension and quality of design intent, thereby reducing potential errors and or system failures.

 

Extensive travel is required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university within the disciplines of Architectural Engineer, Construction Engineer or Structural Engineering fields, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in Pella Corporation Architectural Solutions Department, or a minimum of 4 years of experience as “Senior Project Technician” or relevant construction industry experience.

 

COMPETENCIES

· Knowledge of past and present Pella products.

· Extensive knowledge of construction practices, materials and systems.

· Familiarity with the litigation process.

· Sound judgment

· Diplomacy extremely difficult customer situations, while continuing to protect Pella's interests.

· Has the ability and willingness to do physically demanding and potentially dangerous work, including working on the exterior of high-rise buildings on scaffolding, swing scaffolding, and cherry pickers.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical issues and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
