General Description and Classification Standards:
This is an entry-level position designed to build financial experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities for a career path in financial analysis and management within the Office of Budget & Fiscal Policy (OBFP). The Financial Analyst Associate provides administrative and technical support to OBFP Management in performing complex budgeting, forecasting, financial performance and analysis functions. This position offers hands-on exposure to the City of Atlanta’s Operating and Capital Budget.
The Office of Budget and Fiscal Policy (OBFP) oversees a $3 billion operating budget and a $10 billion capital budget across 26 City departments. The City’s budget is funded from various funding sources including but not limited to the General fund, Aviation, Watershed Management, Solid Waste Services, and various Capital, Grants, and Trust Funds.
Primary duties for this position include, but are not limited to, data entry and compilation of financial plans for budget development, monthly and quarterly financial reporting, performance management, and legislative reviews.

The following duties are performed independently and in cooperation with OBFP and other City staff. Additional duties may be assigned.
Assist with the development and maintenance of the City’s annual operating and capital budgets.
Compile, enter, and analyze data for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Prepare tables, charts, and summaries for internal and public-facing budget documents and presentations.
Support forecasting, financial modeling, and budgetary control processes to ensure fiscal responsibility.
Perform technical and ad hoc financial analyses to evaluate current and future performance.
Collaborate with senior analysts and participate in cross-functional projects.
Provide administrative and technical support across budgeting functions.
Attend Committee Meetings and other public meetings in support of the Office of Budget & Fiscal Policy.

Basic understanding of finance/budgeting principles and concepts.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools including proficiency in Microsoft Excel (i.e. VLOOKUP, pivot tables) and PowerPoint.
Attention to detail with the ability to work accurately with large data sets.
Ability to identify inconsistencies, troubleshoot, and seek guidance when necessary.
Willingness to learn and apply financial concepts in a fast-paced environment.
Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Work on several assignments simultaneously, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines.
Provide outstanding customer satisfaction (internally and externally)
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field.
At least 3 - 6 months of work experience (internship, part-time, volunteer, full-time).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (equivalent professional experience may be considered to substitute the Master’s degree on an exception basis)
Experience with municipal government or public sector financial management.
