DIVISION – LEGAL
The Legal Division represents the public interest in contested cases before the State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH) and the Commission. The division also provides legal and policy advice to agency staff and the Commissioners.
Interested in supporting legal operations in a dynamic regulatory environment? The Legal Division has an opportunity for a highly organized professional ready to contribute to case coordination and administrative support.
The division is hiring a Legal Secretary to provide complex to advanced legal secretarial support to attorney and legal staff. This role incudes preparing and processing legal documents, maintaining service lists and legal records, coordinating schedules and travel, assisting with hearings, and responding to public inquiries. The position plays a key role
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess the following minimum qualifications.
Legal Secretary III
High school graduation or GED equivalent and a minimum of two (2) years of full-time legal secretarial, high-level administrative assistant or records management experience.
Legal Secretary IV
High school graduation or GED equivalent and a minimum of three (3) years of full-time legal secretarial, high-level administrative assistant or records management experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working for a state agency as a legal secretary, administrative assistant or in records management.
WORK SCHEDULE
The PUCT operates on a standard work schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Employees may request an alternative work schedule in accordance with the PUCT's Alternative Work Schedule Policy. Approval of such requests, including any form of telecommuting, is at management's discretion and based on the business needs of the agency and the requirements of the position.
New employees must complete a 90-day period of employment before being eligible to request telecommuting.
VETERAN’S PREFERENCE
Veterans, Reservists, or Guardsmen with a Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) or additional duties that fall in the fields listed in the below link who meet the minimum qualifications are encouraged to apply.

If you qualify for a Veteran Employment Preference, it is mandatory that you provide the required documentation with your State of Texas Application. Documentation must be provided before a Veteran Preference can be granted. Salary commensurate with qualifications. The salary of an ERS Retiree or non-contributing member may be 6% less than the recommended salary.
REMARKS

- The PUCT participates in E-Verify and will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with information from each new employee’s Form I-9 to confirm work authorization.
- The Public Utility Regulatory Act imposes certain restrictions on PUCT employees’ investments, professional activities, and relationships with public utilities, with some limited exceptions. PUCT employees are also prohibited from having a financial interest in a public utility, an affiliate of a public utility, and a person a significant portion of whose business consists of furnishing goods or services to public utilities or affiliates.
