We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Project Manager to plan, oversee, and actively participate in the execution of maintenance and improvement projects—large and small—across our historic Southwest Harbor boat yard. This role requires an individual with strong project management abilities, hands-on technical expertise, and a keen understanding of historic preservation, climate-related challenges, and the operational demands of a working marine facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Planning & Coordination
- Develop and manage maintenance and improvement project plans, timelines, and budgets.
- Coordinate work with internal teams, external contractors, and vendors.
- Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as environmental best practices.
- Execution & Oversight
- Oversee and, when necessary, participate directly in repair, maintenance, and construction activities.
- Monitor project progress, quality, and safety standards.
- Troubleshoot challenges and adjust plans as needed to keep work on track.
- Historic Preservation & Climate Resilience
- Implement maintenance and restoration practices that protect the historic integrity of the yard’s structures and waterfront features.
- Anticipate and mitigate climate-related risks, including storm impacts, sea level rise, and changing weather patterns.
- Source and apply materials and techniques that balance tradition with durability.
- Operational Support
- Work closely with yard leadership to align projects with operational priorities and seasonal schedules.
- Ensure equipment, infrastructure, and facilities meet the demands of modern boat yard operations.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance history, repairs, and capital improvements.
Requirements
- Proven experience in project management, preferably in a marine, industrial, or historic property setting.
- Working knowledge of boat yard operations and associated equipment.
- Familiarity with historic preservation techniques and regulatory guidelines.
- Understanding of climate resilience strategies for coastal infrastructure.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership abilities.
- Comfort working in an active yard environment with varying weather conditions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.
Preferred Experience
Prior work in a boat yard, marina, or shipyard.
Background in construction trades, carpentry, or marine systems.
Experience navigating permitting processes for coastal construction or restoration.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, climb, and perform physical work in outdoor environments.
Lift and carry materials up to 50 lbs.
Comfort working at heights and around water.
