Job Description:

Job Summary:

The technician will be responsible for researching, testing, and evaluating security related hardware and software. Upon completion of the evaluation the technician is to provide their supervisor a comprehensive product review. The technician also provides continual support for existing corporately approved security systems including card access, IP camera system, intrusion alarms, employee screening consisting of walk thru metal detection, turnstiles, and cabinet Xray system.  Support includes end of life planning of hardware, maintaining current software and firmware releases, and staying current with the latest technology. This person will provide additional support to our IP Video Systems team and the Louisville Service team as needed. The technician will maintain the UPS Security Loaner Program that provides various security products for our Security Investigators throughout the US.

Detailed Job Description:

Research, evaluate, and service security related hardware and software as required. Using an understanding of basic electronics and network knowledge, candidate will analyze solutions for security related applications.  Must be able to understand user manuals, electronic schematics, CAD drawings, Technical Specifications and the use of diagnostic tools to identify and resolve issues successfully. The use of hand tools, power tools, network trouble shooting techniques, multi-meters may be needed. Ramp driving may be needed to provide vehicle access to Louisville properties. Lift equipment and ladders could be used for installation and servicing of equipment that can span up to 80 feet in height. This person will assist in the preparation of project estimates and scopes of work for estimates. A partial list of supported equipment types includes card access, CCTV, metal detectors, X-ray, and video switching systems. This person will be required to complete a detailed and comprehensive product evaluations of physical security hardware and software.

Minimum Required Skills/Qualifications:

Candidate must possess strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to multi-task. Candidate should be able to understand complex processes, learn new methods and tools, and exercise good judgement and decision making.

Candidate should be able to navigate through the various networking functions and networking protocols to properly install, upload, download necessary software or connect hardware to the UPS network. Knowledge of wireless, Wi-Fi, cellular technology is a plus.

Additional Skills/Knowledge/Qualifications:

A degree or working towards a degree in computer information systems, computer science and information technology, electrical and computer engineering or equivalent is preferred. Other interest would include criminal justice or physical security. A basic knowledge of electronics is a plus. Experience with navigating the UPS Solutions Architecture Review (SAR) process is a plus.

Candidate must be capable of working alone or within a group. Candidate must possess an attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidate must be customer focused and able to resolve problems in a dynamic environment.

Candidate must be dependable and have an acceptable attendance record. Candidate must also be able to maintain extreme confidentiality where appropriate.
