As a member of the Cloud Hosting crew, you will participate in all phases of our technology products and services, including technical strategy, design, coding, deployment, and operation. Our Cloud Hosting products and services are utilized across all Business Unit Platforms within the Bank to provide industry-leading software, including CommBank App, Netbank, CommSee, CommSec, CommBiz, and Commbank.com.au. 

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Technical Product Owner to join our Cloud Hosting Crew. The ideal candidate will have a strong application and cloud engineering background, preferably at a staff engineer level, with extensive knowledge of AWS database and compute technologies, such as RDS Aurora (Postgres), RDS SQL Server, DynamoDB, and Document DB is highly beneficial.

As a Technical Product Owner, you will play a crucial role in defining and delivering our cloud hosting solutions, ensuring they meet the needs of our customers and align with our strategic goals.

This is how your day will look like:

  • Work closely with Engineers, Chapter Leads and Crew leads to translate product vision, strategy and roadmap into actionable tasks and be responsible for delivery outcomes.

  • Leverage their strong application engineering experience, enabling them to understand how end users interact with cloud services. This understanding is crucial for designing and developing services that meet user needs effectively.

  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications and user stories, ensuring clear communication with the engineering team.

  • Prioritise and manage the product backlog, ensuring alignment with business objectives and customer needs.

  • Work collaboratively with engineers of other product teams and Business Stakeholders to prioritize the backlog, to identify the pain points, automation opportunities and performance bottlenecks in existing infrastructure. 

  • Identify and manage risks, dependencies and issues for the Squad 

  • Manage senior business and technical stakeholders to ensure prioritisation is understood and agreed to 

  • Take accountability for the development and direction of strategic programs of work, using knowledge of platform architectures to deliver systems that are seamlessly integrated, comply with technical requirements and deliver business outcomes 

  • Role model best practices and industry standards to inspire and ensure strategic practice development within teams or platforms

  • Take accountability and drive a learning focused culture including mentoring and up-skilling within own and adjacent teams and technologies

  • Guide multiple teams through complex troubleshooting activities. 

  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.

  • Monitor and analyse product performance, using data-driven insights to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.

  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence within the Cloud Hosting Crew.

We’re interested in hearing from people who have:

  • Proven experience as a Staff Engineer or similar role, with a strong background in cloud technologies and databases.

  • Passion for product management and a desire to transition into a product ownership role.

  • Knowledge of AWS storage and compute services, such as RDS Aurora, RDS SQL Server, DynamoDB, and Document DB being highly beneficial.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience with Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Git.

  • A proactive and customer-focused mindset, with a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions that meet customer needs.
