Why this role matters

Based in Los Angeles, CA, this role is responsible for sourcing and appraising collections for auction and private sale, acting as the contact specialist on the West Coast.  Building close relationships with key stakeholders in both Christie’s LA and San Francisco offices, as well as local private and trade clients. 

How you'll make an impact

  • Serve as a Jewellery business getter for private sales and auction, securing property for sales in the Americas, as well as regional sites of Geneva and Hong Kong as necessary.

  • Take an active role in the regional art and luxury scene, building contacts and leveraging opportunities for Christie’s.

  • Serve as member of Luxury team on business-getting efforts, proactively achieving net profit targets for auction and private sale property.

  • Source for and participate in private selling exhibitions within the US.

  • Collaborate cross-departmentally with Commercial Office, Proposals, Business Development, Client Strategy, and other teams to execute proposals and other competitive business-related projects. 

  • Execute pricing of jewelry collections and appraisals.  Participate in departmental vetting sessions to determine value, condition, and marketability of property.

  • Participate in pre-selling upcoming auctions through targeted marketing efforts.

  • Provide oversight of the local strategy, sourcing and selling of private sales exhibitions and consignments for auction.

  • Participate in pre-sale exhibition and telephone bidding with clients during the auction.

  • Travel as needed to consult on auction and private sale collections and/or individual consignments.

What you’ll bring to the team

  • Minimum of 6 years of progressively senior work experience in the Jewelry industry (auction preferred)

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience.  Master’s degree and/or GIA certificate preferred. USPAP certification preferred

  • Demonstrated ability with commercial negotiation and appraisal of jewels.

  • Strength in working independently to drive business for a large region, while working collaboratively with international colleagues in different time zones. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information.

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize, with strong follow up skills.
