Job Summary:

Provide leadership in sourcing commodities including machining, sheet metal and optics. Plans and implements strategy related to the purchasing of mechanical materials for manufacturing production. Monitors the cost, schedule and performance aspects of commodity suppliers. Is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing supplier sourcing strategy and initiating cost savings projects and opportunities. Drive the process of locating and maintaining the best sources of supply for the components, materials, and services for Teledyne FLIR. This role is critical to the overall operational performance and financial health of the organization due to the scale and impact of the supply chain, sourcing decisions, and supplier capacity and capabilities.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead supplier evaluation, selection, negotiation, and sourcing for machining, sheet metal and optics commodities.

  • Develop new supplier capabilities/competencies through strategic supplier partnerships to generate competitive advantage. Establish and manage the required relationships, investment, training, and resource requirements to successfully complete planned supplier development.

  • Develop small business Suppliers including Woman, Veteran, Service Disabled, Disadvantage and HUBZone to meet or exceed Government requirements.

  • Manage supplier New Product Introduction (NPI) in collaboration with cross functional teams including Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering and Operations.

  • Lead supplier selection process considering inputs and consulting with a cross-functional team. Determine when parts should be sourced to a single supplier or multiple suppliers to mitigate risk and provide continuity of supply and long-term competitiveness.

  • Recommend appropriate approach and suppliers for type of fabrication such as machining, injection molding, 3D printing, casting, stamping, rubber and miscellaneous others.

  • Organize and prioritize Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) projects and drive design and development activities to achieve implementation working with purchasing, suppliers, quality team, and manufacturing to meet cost savings goals.

  • Develop strategic sourcing plans, supplier risk assessments and monitor supplier performance.

  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams on cost reduction projects, priorities, and goals.

Job Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience sourcing activities for fabricated commodities.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management or Engineering required, advanced degree preferred.

  • Knowledge/experience with a variety of mandatory requirements including Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR/DFAR), Technical Assistance Agreements (TAAs) and military regulations (EAR/ITAR).

  • Track record in achieving cost savings.

  • Identify cost drivers, risk opportunities, and manufacturing feasibility.

  • Technical knowledge of mechanical prints.

  • ERP experience (SAP preferred).

  • Self-directed to create and implement action plans for cost saving and lead-time reductions.

  • Strong analytical and written communication skills.

  • Able and willing to travel up to 25% as needed (primarily domestic).
