Project Scope:
Support our product sustainability program by conducting ‘Cradle-to-Gate’ life cycle assessments and market alignment workshops for several products.
Qualifications:
Course work in life cycle assessments
Pursuing degree or recent graduate (Graduate level preferred) in environmental science, engineering, data science, sustainability, or related field
Ability to understand and analyze large data sets
Attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Project Description:
We are seeking a Product Sustainability Intern to conduct several ‘Cradle-to-Gate’ life cycle assessments (LCA) and market alignment workshops for several products. This will include:
Creating a LCA questionnaire for each site
Coordinating with the site to gather site specific data,
Developing the appropriate flows in Holis,
Inputting the site specific data,
Calculating the results,
Transferring the results into the Group system,
Creating an LCA card and Ecoprofile for each product family at each site,
Setting up and supporting workshops to review markets & products-in-application to determine sustainable solutions.
Educational material will be created on the value of LCAs to the business that can be used internally to communicate the importance of LCAs.
The results from each site will be compared to determine areas of improvement and best practices. The results including the value of LCAs will be evaluated and shared with the sites.
Additional sustainability related projects may be part of the internship depending on abilities and needs of the business.
Project Learning Objectives:
Conduct a product family LCA using real data
Understand the environmental impact of each part of the process to develop mineral based products
Learn LCA methodology best practices
Interpret and evaluate an LCA study, understanding its strengths, weaknesses and value to the business
Compare environmental impacts of products and/or minerals to determine areas of improvement
Lead meetings and present to small to medium size groups
