General Summary: 

We are ChiArts. Chicago's first public arts high school. The Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts®) develops the next generation of diverse, artistically promising scholar-artists through intensive pre-professional training in the arts, combined with a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum. Over 2,500 hours of tuition-free, pre-professional arts training is provided to every scholar-artist from freshman year to graduation. Our alumni are pioneers – as scientists, educators, entrepreneurs, and change-makers, and from millions of plays on Spotify, to touring with a dance company, to published writing, to making art that challenges and entertains us on stage and screen, they are blazing new pathways.

Program Overview: 

Rising Freshman ChiArts Students will engage in a three-week academic readiness intensive summer program with a focus on core mathematics and social-emotional skill development, especially as it pertains to self-awareness and self-management.  The summer program will run for three weeks, four days per week (Monday-Thursday), from July 21, 2025, through August 7, 2025.  Daily student sessions for the first two weeks (July 21-31) will run for five hours (9 am - 2 pm), while daily sessions during the third week will run for six hours (9 am - 4 pm).  Students will engage in high school readiness activities and be introduced to pre-professional arts training in the conservatory of their choice.

Job Summary: 

The Freshman Institute Math Instructor will design and deliver a curriculum that incorporates core math skill development, a preview of advanced mathematical concepts, and enrichment to rising Freshman enrolled at ChiArts. The instructor will plan and facilitate engaging, individualized, data-driven activities designed to increase student readiness and accelerate achievement.   

Qualifications

Freshman Summer Institute Math Instructor Schedule:

July 21st – August 7th, Monday-Thursday, 8:45 am-2:15 pm 

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to commit to working for the entire 3 weeks of camp, July 21 - August 7, Thursday, 8:45 am-2:15 pm
  • Valid teaching license issued by the Illinois State Board of Education, with the appropriate endorsement(s) for the role 
  • Experience in math curriculum development and working with middle school/rising freshman students is preferred
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data to craft targeted, individualized math instructional plans
  • Required to submit a curriculum map before the Institute begins
  • Required to submit requested materials before the Institute begins
  • Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and have outstanding communication skills
  • Organization, leadership, and a dedication to working with youth are essential
  • Commitment to sharing and learning through the arts and the ChiArts mission 
  • Excellent classroom management skills

 

Compensation:  

Based on experience.

The instructor will be compensated for 5.5 hours per day.
