Operational Buyer

Operational Buyer is primarily responsible for ensuring supply security of parts and components required for production under the assigned category groups or selection of vendors: both domestic and international, in a timely and cost efficient manner.

Operational Buyer Responsibilities

• Responsible for converting planned production requirements into purchase requisitions and purchase orders based on forecasted demands
• Process order confirmations and attach to purchase orders to ensure proper tracking of production parts
• Manages supplier escalations regarding quantities, shortages, and rescheduling within individual purchase orders or order confirmations
• Escalates supplier delivery and cost issues to relevant value-stream buyer
• Communicates engineering change notifications (ECNs) to suppliers, facilitates implementation of ECNs with suppliers, and escalates issues to engineering change management (ECM) team as required
• Supports value-stream buyer in adjusting lot sizes, kanbans, lead times, etc. to ensure proper material master data management
• Processes invoices in invoice management systems
• Maintain and communicate quantity or delivery date issues directly with supplier, escalating any price or technical issue to value-stream buyer
• Monitor upcoming deliveries, open orders, and potential shortages and escalate to supplier and/or value-stream buyer
• Management of excess stock (escalation if over $5,000)
• Evaluate supplier performance and provide regular feedback to value-stream buyer

Experience

Prior experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. Familiarity with parts lists, drawings, and products a plus. Must have worked with an ERP system, preferably SAP.  Must have excellent problem solving skills. Must be organized to be able to multi-task in a busy work environment effectively. Strong communication skills (verbal and written) required. Bilingual ability (German and English) would be a plus. Strong working knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel is required.

Education

2-year technical degree or suitable combination of education and work experience. SAP production module experience / training a plus. MBA or CSCP/CPIM, CPSM, or SCPro certifications a plus.
