How will you make an impact in this role?

The Senior Analyst, Compliance, will play a key role in supporting the Compliance Testing Program (ICT) at Amex Bank of Canada. This role has two key functions:

  1. Developing and executing compliance testing plans as part of 2nd line of defense (LOD) and identification of issues and observations to assist with driving more compliant business practices and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  2. Analysis, tracking, reporting, and supporting the Senior Manager in stakeholder engagement related to testing initiatives and other projects to enhance and evolve compliance and testing programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Compliance Testing

  • Develop detailed plans and documentation for assigned compliance tests, including scope and requirements definition, identifying impacted business units and processes, and drafting announcement memos and document requests.
  • Conduct walkthroughs with business stakeholders to understand products, processes, and controls and coordinate with stakeholders and other business partners to source data and other materials needed to support testing.
  • Perform transaction and control testing, analyze and assess business processes, monitoring activities, and related materials against regulatory requirements and internal standards,
  • Develop conclusions and other insights to inform findings, and prepare and communicate updates, findings, and reports to management and stakeholders.
  • Maintain robust documentation of plans, tests, testing output, and results, and ensure thorough validation of potential findings and observations relevant to the plan.
  • Track scheduling, key milestones, and deliverables, provide timely updates, and proactively raise issues for early awareness and action to ensure that deadlines and deliverables are met.
  • Serve as a lead and subject matter expert, providing compliance testing guidance to business units to ensure effective execution of testing plans and remediation as needed.
  • Work closely with Compliance and Risk teams locally and internationally and assist in the coordination with plan implementation and uplift.
  • Track regulatory developments, policy discussions, industry trends, and industry-wide initiatives, and collaborate with internal teams to assess their relevance and impact on compliance and testing programs.  
  • Support the Senior Manager in stakeholder engagement around testing awareness initiatives to ensure that business teams understand compliance responsibilities and industry best practices and identify opportunities for program enhancements and efficiencies.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Develop a keen understanding of internal processes, guidelines, standards, and technology related to compliance testing.
  • Stay informed on regulatory updates and emerging risks, proactively identifying compliance impacts and risks.
  • Participate in mandatory training and industry webinars to stay up to date on compliance developments related to testing and other areas.
  • Assist management in implementing new or revised testing methodologies as applicable.
  • Support internal reviews, examinations, and regulatory reviews, ensuring timely remediation of any identified gaps.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager to support the overall Compliance program.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • University degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and business experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in Compliance, Risk Management, or Internal Audit in a financial institution, preferably with at least 2 years of testing experience and superior knowledge of testing methodologies and approaches.
  • Strong analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to analyze regulatory requirements, understand and assess large volumes of complex business and system data, distill key information and insights, and identify relevant compliance risks and issues. 
  • Skilled at using technology to navigate information systems, perform analyses, and create impactful presentations.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal business units, compliance teams, and leadership.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to summarize and present complex regulatory topics for various stakeholders, including in written reports, PowerPoint decks, and oral presentations.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively while working on several projects and meet critical deadlines.
