DNV's Columbus Technology Center in Dublin, Ohio is seeking a Materials, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineer with expertise in polymers and polymer composites to perform various types of specialized mechanical testing to assess material behavior in hydrogen, CO2, hydrogen sulfide, and various other environments. The research and testing performed in Columbus is supporting operations and infrastructure to meet the current energy demand, while accelerating decarbonization strategies that include transportation and storage of hydrogen and CO2.
This role is based at our DNV office in Dublin, OH. Further details regarding role-specific requirements will be shared during the interview process.
What You’ll Do
- Design and conduct hands-on laboratory experiments that drive innovation and discovery.
- Work with advanced, pressurized equipment and a variety of chemical solutions—enjoy the excitement of tackling real-world challenges (comprehensive safety training provided for all environments, including those involving H2 and H2S).
- Analyze test data to uncover trends and solve complex problems.
- Investigate material failures, working directly with polymers and composite materials, and contribute to real solutions in the field.
- Identify knowledge gaps in materials compatibility and performance, connect with industry partners, and lead development of innovative testing programs.
- Engage in projects focused on materials selection and performance testing, from experimental setup and data collection to impactful reporting.
- Collaborate with clients - develop tailored testing plans, present results, and build lasting partnerships and new business opportunities.
- Keep stakeholders informed with clear project updates and comprehensive final reports.

What is Required
- Engineering degree (M.Sc or Ph.D.) in Materials Science, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering
- Industry recognition in polymers and/or polymer composite materials
- Experience running mechanical, physical, and chemical tests to evaluate performance and degradation mechanisms
- Experience with proposal generation
- Ability to identify new research areas in a quickly changing energy industry
- Demonstrates strong organizational skills and a proactive mindset with the capacity to effectively operate in a fast-paced environment alongside diverse individuals, including clients and colleagues
- Ability to regularly lift 25lbs and wear a respirator
- Willingness and ability to travel, up to 5% of the time
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to rent and drive a car and tarvel on public conveyances when required
- We conduct pre-employment background and drug screening, as well as random drug screening to meet Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements
What is Preferred
- Experience in project management, with understanding of technical interfaces and project finance management
- Five or more (5+) years of laboratory testing experience is strongly desired
- Experience with pipeline coatings
- Experience running tests at high pressure
- Experience in hydrogen
