Position Summary:
The Controls Engineer is responsible for project requirements involving control panel design, PLC programming, instrumentation, check out support, and start-up assistance. Engineering responsibilities include designing, developing, and implementing the controls system (logic software and hardware) to meet machine and integrated system requirements. Develop Schematics detailing control system configuration and wiring, and design equipment panel layouts on AutoCAD software. The Controls Engineer will assist with initial start-up and debug integrated systems and the development of systems.
Responsibilities:
- Developing, evaluating, improving, and documenting automation processes
- Develop and implement process control techniques and procedures for automation used in a 24/7 manufacturing environment
- Analyze the automation processes and identify ways of enhancing quality, cost, and throughput of those processes
- Work closely with production and maintenance departments to develop, coordinate, and implement technical training for employees
- Provide automation support to production departments in multiple locations to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems
- Support company policies, procedures, goals, and objectives
Skills and Qualifications:
- Ability to troubleshoot 480 VAC power systems
- Hands-on experience programming Allen-Bradley PLC-5, SLC500, ControlLogix systems, and Rockwell HMI systems
- Experience with motion control systems
- Knowledge of servo motor systems
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications and AutoCAD
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required to effectively communicate throughout the organization
- Strong analytical ability to analyze and solve problems
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Able to perceive needs and work independently
- Data driven problem solving approach including root cause analysis
Preferred Skills:
- Proven experience with Computer Numerical Controllers (CNC)
- Siemens Human Machine Interface’s (HMI) and PLC experience
- Experience with Siemens Motion Control
- Experience working directly with welding processes
Education:
Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, or relevant experience required
Additional Requirements:
- Must be physically able to freely access all areas of the plant & grounds
- Must be able to travel as needed via most expeditious means
- Ability to frequently bend & stoop and lift at least 50 pounds
