Title: Assistant Coach – Women’s Basketball
Reports To: Head Coach Women’s Basketball
Responsibilities:
The Assistant Coach reports directly to a Head Coach is expected to work closely with the Head Coach, Sport Administrator and the athletics support staff with carrying out the philosophy and objectives of the department and the College. Responsibilities include:
1. Coaching
- Communicate effectively with department colleagues and student-athletes
- Assist with the organization and administration of all aspects of the program
- Assist with the development & maintenance of a sport program to be competitive in the conference
- Create a safe and positive environment for student-athletes to excel
- Emphasize the Wagner Student-Athlete Ethics & Expectations
- Practice good sportsmanship and maintain professional conduct
2. Recruit and Retain Student-Athletes
- Recruit (evaluations and contacts) and retain athletically and academically qualified student-athletes
- Commit to each student-athlete’s academic achievement
- Adhere to NCAA, Northeast Conference, institutional, and department policies and procedures
- Pass the annual NCAA Coaches Certification Test
- Maintain required documentation for institutional and NCAA rules compliance
3. Administration
- Support the Head Coach with coordinating a competitive schedule and ensuring that NCAA sponsorship minimums are met
- Assist with team practices
- Communicate effectively with Head Coach, sport administrator, facilities personnel, medical staff, sports information office, and academic services
- Demonstrate fiscal responsibility with budget
- Maintain appropriate documentation for business expenditures and NCAA rules compliance
- Assist with arranging team travel and the procurement of equipment needs
- Maintain on-campus office hours
4. Public Relations
- Promote a positive image of Wagner College at all times
- Support your team’s Life Skills and community relations’ projects
- Support sports information office with information for publicity purposes
- Support marketing efforts through appearances and promotions
5. Fundraising
1. Support fundraising activities of the Seahawk Club and the College
Brief Overall Description:
Assist the Head Coach with the administration of all aspects of a competitive Division I program. Responsibilities include assisting with practice and competition coaching, recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes. Additional duties include participation in College fundraising activities, enrollment management, and the promotion of community relations. Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
The individual must be of high moral character and act in an ethical manner at all times. It is expected that any violation of NCAA rules or regulations will be reported to the Director of Athletics for review. Further, an employee who is found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures.
DEPARTMENTAL GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
- Provide a quality athletic experience for intercollegiate student-athletes.
- Provide quality recreation opportunities for the College community.
- Provide the opportunity for student-athletes to develop and refine athletic prowess, academics, sport specific skills, life and leadership skills.
- Manage a fiscally sound budget center by efficiently utilizing available resources and producing increased income through the sales and fundraising opportunities available.
- Support the efforts of the College by assisting with fundraising efforts, alumni programming and public relations efforts.
- Assist Admissions by enhancing its recruiting opportunities.
Maintain compliance with all College, NCAA, and conference rules and regulations governing academic and competitive eligibility
