SMG is seeking a local HSE Advisor with prior experience in laboratories and knowledge of IH, chemical safety and storage, and hazardous waste management in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Overview of Job Responsibilities:
- Performance of event investigation and meeting reviews as required in the Contractor Health Safety & Environmental Management Program (CHSEMP) document. Must be proficient in formal root cause analysis.
- Completion of documented field observations.
- Translate field observation findings into a summary format, including trend analysis, along with recommendations for improving the contractor program.
- Attend annual contract meetings and assist with items on the agenda pertaining to safety, if needed.
- Assist in and review specifications to be included in contract documents.
- Provide updates on HSE initiatives, discuss “top Tier” performance, seek improvement opportunities, and discuss Owner-driven initiatives.
- Attend as requested and provide leadership, insight, and recommendations for improvement from a safety perspective.
- Complete routine process verifications to indicate level of conformance to the CHSEMP process, and make formal recommendations to the site and Contractor Health Safety & Environmental Management Team (CHSEMT) for program improvements.
- Provide and/or present instructor-led CHSEMP training for all personnel involved in the contracting process.
- Ensure accurate event information is entered into the tracking database and the Collaboration site.
- Administration of OCIP claims management and assistance for non-OCIP contractors for all contractor-related incidents that occur in the areas.
- Follow the Environmental Project Verification Procedure.
- Inform appropriate customer personnel of contractor-related environmental events and investigate those events.
- Develop and maintain leading and trailing safety metrics.
- Assist employees during the Contract Firm HSE Qualification process.
- Attend Monthly HSE meetings.
- Meet with the HSE Team Leader twice annually to review SSO and projects and/or concerns.
- Spot check HSE work plans to ensure compliance with CHSEMP and that the contents are still applicable to the scope of work for the contract firm.
- Provide technical interpretation of OSHA, IOSHA, and other consensus standards for both construction and general industry.
- Prepare and provide reports of findings with recommendations for corrective actions to appropriate customer personnel as needed.
- Provide and has a record of documentation for all event investigation reports that occur within the business area.
- Monitors the customer's safety standards in accordance with OSHA and state regulations.
- Keeps management informed of area activities and any significant concerns.
- Research and resolve problems and questions, or properly refer them.
- Keeps customers properly informed of safety-related activities or concerns.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in HSE or HSE-related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
- Ability to interpret and apply in practice, construction and environmental information from all codes, standards, regulations, Federal and State laws, and all other applicable regulatory documents.
- Must have experience and a general understanding of industrial hygiene applications and process safety management requirements.
- Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to maintain a positive attitude.
- Have thorough knowledge of lead/asbestos regulations and hazardous waste handling.
- Prior experience/knowledge with risk management, statistical methods, and behavior-based safety concepts.
- Prior experience in program development and technical writing.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Effective presentation skills.
- Ability to interpret and apply DOT requirements as they apply to shipping and handling of mail, packages, and hazardous waste.
- Capable of providing safety support to a variety of different trades/services, including (but not limited to) facility maintenance, laboratories, housekeeping, and project construction.
- Experience with Owner Controlled Insurance Programs (OCIP).
Physical Demands of the job may include:
- Moving about long distances
