The Lutheran Center (national office) is located in Chicago, Illinois. A staff of approximately 400, under the leadership of the Presiding Bishop, serve as administrators, advisors, conveners, partners, and resource people for the ELCA and its ministries. Staff lead the work of national, domestic, and global ministries and programs including Lutheran Disaster Response, ELCA World Hunger, Service & Justice, Christian Community and Leadership, and Innovation.  We are also home to five of our separately incorporated ministries: The Mission Investment Fund of the ELCA, Women of the ELCA, Lutheran Men in Mission, the ELCA Foundation and the ELCA Federal Credit Union.


 

About the position

This position is part of the Human Resources team in the Office of the Presiding Bishop. Every function of the Office of the Presiding Bishop serves to support and guide members of this church as we wonder, discover, and boldly participate in what God is up to in the world. The HRIS Analyst will work with all areas of the Human Resources team, with the larger organization, and external vendors as a systems administrator and is responsible for managing all Human Resources systems and databases to support the people experience across the functional areas of payroll, staffing, onboarding, compliance, benefits, and compensation. Work involves, but is not limited to, acting as primary contact for HR system issues; researching and resolving system problems, unexpected results, or process flaws; perform ongoing data processes optimization analysis; performing scheduled activities and recommending solutions or alternate methods to meet objectives; support and implement data solutions to further the business needs of the ELCA. This position is also responsible for data entry including employee tracking and serves as the backup for employee relocation process, benefits billing and payroll. The ideal candidate for this position works well within a team environment and excels at assessing and resolving issues in a proactive manner. 


This is a full-time, regular, hybrid (Chicago-based), exempt position. This position has responsibilities that will require being in the Lutheran Center office on a regular basis as needed. 


Candidates for this position must reside within the fifty United States or the District of Columbia and be authorized to work lawfully in the United States. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.


  

1. As system administrator and subject matter expert serves as primary contact for the Paylocity HR/Payroll system: train employees on the system; respond to and resolve user inquiries and ensure necessary follow up; work with vendor to create and assign security roles; create workflows and enable effective business processes; generate reports; perform general troubleshooting tasks; ensure that the system is being used to its fullest extent.


2. Elicit, identify, analyze, and report findings of end user needs/issues in all HR systems and databases; initiate efforts and procedures to maintain data integrity and identify gaps or inefficiencies in current procedures, troubleshoot and recommend solutions.


3. Independently complete special projects and assignments of a technical nature using Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Actively attend trainings and stay up to date on software changes across all platforms.


4. Create, test, and implement new data processing solutions, including imports, configurations, and integrations. Ensure that existing processes are current and optimized. Works in close partnership with Information Technology staff and Office of the Treasurer staff. 


5. Assist payroll team with various steps in payroll process, act as backup payroll processor. 


6. Serve as main contact and regularly engage our software vendors on new solutions, upcoming changes, and any proprietary design changes or projects that may be needed. 


7. Other duties as assigned 

Requirements

 1. 3+ years of professional data systems management experience; Human Resources work experience, including knowledge of HRIS, a plus; Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job listed above.  


2. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of programs; experience with HR information systems; experience using the Paylocity HR/Payroll system preferred. 


3. Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; self-starter and independent problem solver with the ability to anticipate next steps. 


4. Ability to analyze, standardize, and improve data flow between varying applications.


5. Ability to quickly grasp complex business processes and understand how they integrate with one another.


6. Willing and able to learn new duties and technology-related skills as required.


7. Demonstrated ability to maintain highest level of confidentiality and integrity; ability to work collaboratively and effectively across the organization and with members, key partners, and the general public. 


8. Exceptional planning and organizational skills with strong attention to detail and efficiency; ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and within deadlines.


9. Appreciation for the mission, vision, and values of the ELCA. 


  

 

Physical 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone. This position requires sitting for long periods of time. Employee will occasionally need to lift boxes or materials up to 15 pounds. Travel 

Minimal local travel for team retreats, etc.
