JOB SUMMARY:
The Mental Health/Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for providing mental health and/or substance abuse services for PIHC clients. Services include individual and group counseling, providing consults to potential clients, completing intakes, conducting behavioral health assessments, connecting clients to resources, as well as, engaging in outreach efforts. This position requires a person who is creative, flexible and able to travel between delivery sites in metropolitan Atlanta.

Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for providing culturally competent individual and group counseling sessions as allowed by their licensure/certification.
• Conducts new client consultations, psychosocial intakes, diagnostic interviews and behavioral health screenings, as allowed by their licensure/certification.
• Provide consultation and coordination of services with the psychiatry, HIV medical clinic, prevention services, and client services
• Provides services a primary Positive Impact Health Centers office location with some ability to substituted in other locations when needed.
• Counselors working within the Recovery division will conduct random urine drug screens for clients enrolled in outpatient treatment program.
• Counselors who are fluent or native speakers of languages other than English, may provide bilingual services.
• Prepare referrals as needed to ensure quality client care
• Document appropriately in the electronic medical record system. Provisionally licensed and Certified Addiction Counselors will submit documentation for Review/Signature by fully licensed supervisor.
• Abide by all state and agency policies regarding confidentiality of client information
• Maintain licensure/certification in the state of Georgia
• May provide clinical mentorship to graduate student clinical interns
• Acts as a liaison between client and community resources as needed
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to plan, implement, evaluate and report activities conducted.
- Ability to interview, conduct assessment, and crisis intervention.
- Ability to organization and experience with volunteer based non-profit agencies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of issues specific to HIV and substance abuse.
- Ability to communicate both in written and verbal communication.
- Ability to plan, implement, evaluate and report activities conducted.
- Ability to establish rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Sensitivity, skill and/or experience working with persons with HIV/AIDS, mental health and/or substance use issues, ethnic and sexual minorities, homeless, and individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to remain calm and supportive in psychological emergencies and/or crises when provided with appropriate supervision and direction.
- Ability to communicate via computer e-mail and electronic medical record.
- Successful candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to multi-task.
- Electronic Medical Record system knowledge preferred.
- Possess excellent communication skills (writing, spelling, listening and speaking).
- Cooperates as a team member.
- Possesses problem solving and decision making abilities.
- Utilizes good management techniques.
- Follows through to completion of assigned tasks.
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet database and presentation software.
- Abides by all polices and procedures concerning personnel including conflict of interest policy.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or a related field
License/Licensure:
• Provisionally licensed as an LMSW, APC, AMFT or Unlicensed Psychologist
• Fully licensed as a LCSW, LPC, LMFT or Licensed Psychologist Preferred
Experience
One year experience in social services or mental health agency and/or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
