GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all environmental, health, and safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as CRL company standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•    EHS Program Development and Implementation:
      Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS management systems, policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, and Kansas specific regulations), and industry best practices.
      Ensure all EHS programs are effectively integrated into daily operations and understood by all employees by utilizing and instructing department safety officers. 
      Lead the development and implementation of new EHS initiatives to enhance workplace safety, reduce environmental impact, and promote employee wellbeing.
•    Regulatory Compliance and Reporting:
      Stay current with all applicable EHS laws, regulations, codes, and standards.
      Evaluate and record quality metrics and develop new metrics to identify areas for performance improvement.
      Report injuries and accidents to the appropriate agencies.
      Maintain records and documentation related to safety and facilities in the eQMS document control system.
      Act as a primary point of contact during regulatory inspections and audits, respond to inquiries and ensure compliance.
      Manage and maintain all necessary environmental permits (waste).
      Prepare annual summary of the EHS program including quality metrics and progress on new and ongoing EHS and sustainability initiatives.
•    Risk Management and Incident Investigation:
     Work in tandem with Physical Security to Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, hazard analysis, and ergonomic assessments to identify potential hazards and risks.
     Develop and implement effective control measures to mitigate identified risks, including engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
     Collaborate with Physical Security on implementing physical protection systems.
     Lead and participate in incident investigations (accidents, near misses, environmental spills), conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventative actions (CAPAS).
•    Training and Awareness:
      Develop, deliver, and oversee comprehensive EHS training programs for all employees, contractors, and visitors, covering topics such as hazard communication, lockout/tagout,         confined space entry, emergency response, waste management, and general safety awareness.
      Promote a strong safety culture through regular communications, campaigns, and visible leadership.
      Coordinate and conduct First Aid and AED training.
•    Emergency Preparedness and Response:
     Develop, implement, and maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios (fire, chemical spills, natural disasters, and active threats).
     Coordinate emergency drills and exercises to ensure preparedness.
     Serve as key member of the emergency / incident response team.
     Serve as primary emergency notification system administrator. 
•    Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication:
      Collaborate effectively with all departments (Operations, HR, Laboratory, QMS, Facilities, IT, and Supply Chain) to integrate EHS into all CRL activities.
      Communicate EHS performance, initiatives, and concerns clearly and concisely to all levels of the company.
      Maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and community organizations.
•    Maintain and protect the confidentiality of all CRL, CRL subsidiaries, legal entities, and client information.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, or related field, or equivalent combination of training and work experience.

EXPERIENCE: 2 years of experience in a laboratory or other similar regulated environment. Knowledge of OSHA regulations. Proven experience developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive EHS programs.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  
•    Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and presentation skills.
•    String understanding of EHS best practices, risk assessment methodologies, and incident investigation techniques.
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a detail-oriented approach.
•    Able to understand and apply new regulations
•    Must be objective, fair, and consistent with sound judgment
•    Familiarity with applicable regulations and standards (GCP, GLP, GMP, CLIA, CAP, ICH, FDA, OSHA, IATA, and ISO) helpful
•    Ability and judgment to interact and communicate appropriately with other employees, clients, and management

EQUIPMENT: Personal computer, laboratory coat, safety equipment as necessary.


OTHER: Occasional handling of blood\urine for specimen preparation/analysis; specimens consist of body fluids and must be regarded as potentially infectious. Flexible work schedule, including weekends and evenings as required as well as some travel.
