Summary And Scope

The Senior CAD Designer will support our engineering and design teams by creating, modifying, and maintaining technical drawings and schematics. The Designer must be proficient in AutoCAD and SolidWorks software and capable of gathering requirements, translating instructions, reviewing conceptual designs, and drawing upon acquired knowledge and experience to create timely and precise 2D and 3D drawings. The ideal candidate is a field-experienced, detail-oriented, fast learning, self-sufficient, self-starter who can communicate clearly and concisely with stakeholders.

Essential Functions

  • Create detailed CAD drawings for construction, manufacturing, or engineering projects
  • Convert sketches and specifications into accurate technical drawings
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and project managers to gather project requirements
  • Modify existing drawings based on feedback and design changes
  • Ensure all drawings comply with industry standards and regulations and meet customer requirements
  • Maintain organized records of all drawings and revisions
  • Perform site measurements when necessary and integrate data into designs
  • Stay updated on AutoCAD software developments and best practices
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Skills And Specifications

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD
  • Ability to quickly translate contract requirements, feedback, and sketches into technical drawings and update them promptly when necessary
  • Ability to ensure accuracy and compliance with foundational engineering concepts
  • Ability to incorporate real-world data into designs
  • Ability to create drawings that meet contract, bid, and customer specifications, aligned with industry standards
  • Collaboration with stakeholders to ensure project alignment
  • Ability to revise drawings based on stakeholder input
  • Ability to maintain precision in drawings and documentation
  • Organizational skills to archive drawings and revisions systematically
  • Understanding of company goals, workflows, and priorities to produce context-driven designs
  • Ability to work independently and deliver results with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering and design principles
  • Ability to thrive in both independent and collaborative, fast-paced environments
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience

  • Required: Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field
  • Required: 5+ years’ relevant experience, to include:
  • Required: 3+ years' experience drafting for government contracting, construction, or manufacturing
  • Desired: Autodesk Certified Professional (ACP), Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA), or Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) credential 
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and/or other CAD software
  • Experience creating 2D and 3D drawings

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, see, hear, stand, walk, bend, twist, kneel, climb, engage in repetitive motions, and use hands and fingers to manipulate objects, tools, or controls. May routinely and repetitively lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted (or heavier with the use of proper equipment and procedures).

Expected Hours of Work

The ability to work flexible hours including nights, holidays, and weekends will be required based on contract needs. It is expected for this position to attend regular meetings during typical work hours in Eastern Standard Time as well as meetings as needed for assigned projects in other time zones.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional, remote environment with occasional field and site visits. The position routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, smart phones, tablets, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and presentation tools. There is an expectation of clear written and verbal communication in English.

Travel

This position requires up to 10% travel. Travel is dependent on contract load. The ability to travel to job sites and be away for extended periods of time based on contract needs is required. Short notice travel is required with 24-48 hours’ notice.

Work Authorization

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to travel within the Continental United States (CONUS).
  • Must pass a drug test, motor vehicle record check, occupational health physical and lift test (if applicable), credit check, and a background check upon accepting a conditional offer of employment.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license. Must have, and maintain, a clean driving record.
