Research Assistant-Anthropology
The Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County (NHMLAC) include the Natural History Museum in Exposition Park, La Brea Tar Pits in Hancock Park, and the William S. Hart Museum in Newhall. The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking a Research Assistant for our Research & Collections Anthropology department. The Research Assistant assist Collections Manager with research projects under his/her supervision. Assist in fieldwork, data collection, data management and other tasks as directed by the Senior Manager.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

Will spend substantial time sitting, utilizing the computer and microscope.
Will spend six weeks performing geological fieldwork requiring camping, vigorous physical activity including hiking long distances, carrying up to a 40 lb backpack, using hand tools for excavation, sometimes in adverse conditions including extreme heat and thunderstorms.
Will consistently lift jars weighing no more than 20 pounds
Interact with specimens stored in ethanol
May be expected to travel for short periods not to exceed 10 days
May lift up to 40 lbs. periodically.
Operate a computer using various Microsoft Office, ImageJ, R, and Nikon NIS-Elements software

This position has the following requirements:

Geological fieldwork and training preferred; experience with Google Suite (spreadsheets, docs, drive), ImageJ, and Microsoft Office preferred; experience with microscopy preferred but not mandatory

Salary range for this position is $21.25 with experience plus excellent benefits. This position is Part-Time Temporary. The end date for this position is September 30, 2025.
