The Rivers School — a 6-12 co-ed independent day school in Weston, MA, just outside Boston — seeks professionals who are looking to join a dynamic, innovative, and welcoming school community.

 

Position Purpose: The Director of Operations (DOO) will be responsible for managing much of the non-academic operations for the school including logistics, safety and security, major facilities development, transportation, and some auxiliary revenue enterprises.  The position will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) on risk management activities, capital budgeting, and other items. The DOO plays a major role in ensuring a safe and organized campus. This position is a full year position which reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer. 

Essential Job Functions:

Facilities and Project Management:

  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Trustees Facilities Committee.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Facilities and CFO to develop and manage the annual Capital Expenditures (CAPEX) budget.
  • Scope, price, and manage approved CAPEX projects and minor projects, including equipment and furniture in collaboration with the Director of Facilities.
  • Supervise external project managers for large-scale capital projects.
  • Act as an ombudsman for professional community members regarding facilities issues.
  • Serve as the lead administrator for the facilities scheduling, function sheet, rentals, and work order system (FMX), and coordinate with the Rentals Manager.

Safety and Security:

  • Manage and update the school's emergency alert systems and text groups for senior administration and medical emergencies.
  • Work with academic administration to schedule and implement active shooter and evacuation drills.
  • Convene and run quarterly Crisis and Security Committee meetings, as well as biannual Safety Committee meetings.
  • Oversee online risk management training platforms, ensuring all professional community members complete required training.
  • Manage the school's vehicle GPS tracking system and monitor for safety issues.
  • Track CPR and First Aid training for the professional community and oversee the athletic center's morning supervision protocols.

Logistical and Event Management:

  • Provide logistical support for major school events such as graduation, prize day, and open houses.
  • Assist academic administration with daily drop-off and pick-up logistics.
  • Serve as the project manager for non-academic projects as needed.
  • Provide logistical support for summer academic programs, auxiliary programs (e.g., Camp Nonesuch), and the Head of School's residence.

Administrative and General Operations:

  • Maintain and update all daily bus transportation schedules, routes, and policies in coordination with the CFO and Transportation Coordinator.
  • Review trip budgets with trip leaders and the Global Travel Coordinator.
  • Oversee the management of the Lead School Nurse.
  • Manage the school's vending machine services and contracts.
  • Serve as the lead administrator for the FinalSite Communications Platform, managing communication groups and sending urgent messages.
  • Work with the Calendar Coordinator to identify and resolve conflicts on the school calendar.
  • Maintain and update business office, safety, security, and risk management resources for the professional community.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • The Director of Operations will have at least a Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of related experience in management or administration.  Experience in logistics and project management is preferred.  Operations experience in an educational environment is also strongly preferred.
