We work collaboratively with the Victorian State Government to ensure we fulfill regulatory requirements, deliver State projects and safeguard customer data. The Victorian State Government retains sole responsibility for road access, infrastructure and safety.

We are seeking a talented and driven individual to join our dynamic Technology Operations team. About the Opportunity 

The Automation Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing automated test scripts to support fast and reliable validation of digital products and platforms. This role contributes to the delivery of automated test coverage across web, APIs, and integration points within Agile delivery teams. Reporting to the Manager Automation & Performance, this role will help integrate test automation into CI/CD pipelines, improve regression testing capabilities, and contribute to delivering high-quality technology solutions.

  • Automation Strategy & Delivery: Lead the development of scalable test automation frameworks across UI, API, and integration layers. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining automated test scripts for regression, smoke, and functional testing, and integrating them into CI pipelines to support fast, reliable deployments.
  • Mentoring & Stakeholder Engagement: Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior automation engineers, promoting best practices and high code quality. It also involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality automation scripting.
  • Defect Identification & Continuous Improvement: Support test execution, analyses failures, and works closely with engineering teams to isolate and resolve defects. It also contributes to enhancing test coverage, execution efficiency, and reporting within the automation practice.


About you 

You are an experienced and technically skilled automation engineer with a strong background in software testing across web, API, and backend services. You bring over five years of hands-on experience with tools such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, RestAssured, and Postman, along with solid programming skills in languages like Java, JavaScript, Python, or C#. You’re confident integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using platforms like Azure DevOps or Git, and you have a deep understanding of Agile methodologies and testing principles.

You hold a tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, and ideally, you have certifications in test automation, DevOps, or CI/CD. Experience with BDD tools, containerisation (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes), cloud environments (AWS or Azure), or work in regulated industries will be highly regarded.
