Translational Lead

argenx

Office

Gent, Belgium

Full Time

Join us as we transform immunology and deliver medicines that help autoimmune patients get their lives back. argenx is preparing for multi-dimensional expansion to reach more patients through a rich pipeline of differentiated assets, led by VYVGART, our first-in-class neonatal Fc receptor blocker approved for the treatment of gMG, and with the potential to treat patients across dozens of severe autoimmune diseases.

We are building a new kind of biotech company, one that maintains its roots as a science-based start-up and pushes our commitment to innovate across all corners of our business. We strive to inspire and grow our company, our partnerships, our science, and our people, because when we do, we deliver more for patients.

argenx is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Translational Science Leader (Principal Scientist level I or II) with strong expertise in immunology research to join our growing Translational Science team, based in Ghent (Belgium). This key role will support the development of innovative therapies by driving translational strategies that enhance our understanding of disease biology, mechanisms of action, and ultimately increase the likelihood of successful drug development and approval. The Translational Lead will be responsible for leading the analysis and interpretation of data from research studies (during clinical stage of drug development), working collaboratively across internal and external project teams. Success in this role requires a versatile scientist comfortable working across different projects and stages of the drug development lifecycle, with strong collaborative interactions across research, biomarker, clinical, medical affairs, and commercial teams. The ability to integrate insights from multiple disciplines into a coherent and impactful translational plan is essential.

This position is based at our facility in Zwijnaarde, Belgium, and expects regular on-site presence.
We look forward to receiving your CV and cover letter when applying. A cover letter is mandatory for your application to be considered.

Main roles & responsibilities

  • Support the translational strategy for designated disease areas (initial focus on neurology and rheumatology), guiding cross-asset and cross-indication planning throughout late-stage development (PoC to Phase 3 and launch).
    • Develop and execute fit-for-purpose translational plans, enabling forward translation to support clinical development and therapeutic differentiation.
    • Define research questions to deepen disease understanding and guide indication selection and therapeutic development.
    • Drive reverse translation by integrating clinical and preclinical insights to identify resistance mechanisms and novel targets.
  • Oversee translational study design and execution, collaborating with internal teams, CROs, and academic partners, to generate meaningful data aligned with clinical and scientific goals.
  • Harmonize translational approaches and data interpretation across programs to ensure consistency and impact, and collaborate with bioinformatics experts to leverage computational tools and analyze complex dataset (e.g. omics), aimed at uncovering disease mechanisms and accelerating translational insights.
  • Contribute to shaping the strategic direction of the Translational Science team by building scalable frameworks for translational planning and execution, aligning best practices across disease areas, and fostering team growth and impact through strong leadership and mentorship.
  • Foster strategic collaborations and scientific leadership
    • Through internal partnerships with other translational science teams (biomarker, early translational strategy team, asset focused translational teams) and cross-functional teams (including medical affairs, commercial, clinical, data science)
    • Through external engagement in disease-specific consortia, externally sponsored research, real-world evidence initiatives, and KOL partnerships.
  • Stay current with scientific trends, represent argenx externally, and share insights through presentations and publications.

Professional experience / expertise

  • PhD or equivalent in Immunology, Molecular Biology, or a related field, with 10+ years of relevant research and/or industry experience, ideally in a pharma or biotech environment.
  • Strong expertise in translational and biomarker strategy development to support drug development, with a solid scientific publication record.
  • Background in immunology and experience in disease areas aligned with argenx’s pipeline, particularly neurology and rheumatology.
  • Experience with biomarker characterization using platforms such as single cell RNAseq, spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, and/or immunohistochemistry is a plus.
  • Skilled in analyzing complex translational omics datasets, with familiarity in bioinformatics tools for pathway analysis, data mining and biological interpretation.
  • Knowledge of biomarker discovery workflows and regulatory standards (e.g., GCP/GCLP) relevant to clinical and translational research.

Profile

  • Effective communicator with the ability to explain complex concepts in both written and spoken English.
  • Collaborative team player with a proven track record of working effectively across internal teams and external partners.
  • Motivated, detail-oriented, and committed to high-quality execution and reporting.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Adaptable and resilient, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Works independently while contributing effectively within cross-functional teams.

What we offer

  • A full-time position within a dynamic, fast-growing, and human-sized biotech company driven by science, creativity, and innovation.
  • The opportunity to work in a cross-functional, collaborative team involved in the clinical development of therapeutic antibodies, with access to a broad range of technologies.
  • A key role in contributing to the continued growth and shaping of the Translational Science team.
  • A competitive salary package complemented by extensive benefits.
  • A flexible work environment, with the option to work remotely for part of your time.
