Position Summary:
The Fuel Systems Maintenance Manager (FSMM) is responsible for customer experience as it relates to fuel system uptime, safe operability, and service quality. The FSMM drives high preventive and reactive maintenance performance within the service level agreement (SLA), HSSE standard, compliance legislation, and ensures operational continuity of fuel systems across a network of Shell Mobility and Convenience retail locations. This role ensures that all fuel dispensing equipment, underground storage tanks (USTs), and associated infrastructure are maintained to the highest standards of safety, environmental compliance, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Maintenance Oversight:
- Manage preventive and reactive maintenance programs for fuel systems, including dispensers, USTs, piping, and monitoring systems through a network of internal and external service providers.
- Coordinate service providers to ensure timely and commercially responsible resolution of equipment issues to maximize system uptime.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
- Perform in-depth analysis and report insights for performance, costing, and labor utilization using work order management system, time tracking system, and other internal data.
- Collaborate with Director of Maintenance Operations for recommended improvement actions and business cases for CAPEX projects.
- Compliance & Safety:
- Coordinate activities with Environmental Team to ensure all fuel systems comply with Federal, State, and local environmental and safety regulations (e.g., EPA, TCEQ, NMDE, OSHA).
- Support Environmental Team to address any deficiencies or violations promptly and safely return systems to service.
- Provide documentation for regulatory reporting and compliance tracking.
- Vendor & Contractor Management:
- Source, evaluate, and manage relationships with fuel system service vendors and contractors.
- Recruit and retain top Fuel Maintenance Technicians and develop along individualized plans.
- Negotiate master service agreements and rate schedules to ensure cost-effective adherence to HSSE and performance standards.
- Budget & Asset Management:
- Support development and manage the annual maintenance budgets for fuel maintenance and parts inventory.
- Use work order system and Insite360 to track performance and cost across asset lifecycle and recommend upgrades or replacements as needed.
- Emergency Response:
- Support Environmental Team as internal service contact for fuel system emergencies, including third-party damage, leaks, spills, or equipment failures.
- Coordinate incident response and remediation efforts in collaboration with Environmental and Safety Teams.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, reduce downtime, and optimize maintenance costs.
- Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes.
- Attend trade shows, seminars, and participate in dialogue with other industry professionals to benchmark best practices.
- Willingness to participate in company-sponsored training (ie PMP, Lean-Six Sigma, CFM)
- Ability to complete Shell Technical Advisor training and certification as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Environmental Science, Facilities Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in fuel system or facilities management, preferably in the convenience retail or petroleum industry.
- Experience managing a budget greater than $1M
- Experience managing Gilbarco dispensers, Veeder-Root ATG and equipment, Passport, and Insite360 dashboard will be strongly considered.
- Strong knowledge of UST systems, fuel dispensing equipment, and environmental compliance requirements.
- Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) and fuel monitoring technologies.
- Excellent interpersonal, project management, communication, and vendor negotiation skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to retail sites across National footprint as needed.
Preferred Certifications:
- UST Class A/B Operator Certification
- HAZWOPER or other environmental safety training
- PMP, CFM, Lean-Six Sigma, or other relevant methodology
Physical Requirements:
- The ability to work overtime as required.
- Valid Driver License.
- Will sometimes require being outdoors for extended periods of time.
- Must have the ability to move and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Daily heavy lifting, kneeling, standing, for long periods, kneeling.
- Ability to work outdoors year-round in all types of weather conditions.
