Job Description:
Oakhurst Dairy is seeking a diesel technician / truck and trailer mechanic to join our small locally managed team in Portland, Maine. Our team currently maintains a fleet of primarily Freightliner, Great Dane Trailers and Carrier Refrigeration equipment. We have a small, capable, loyal and committed team to support our fleet. Oakhurst Dairy is over 100 years old and is still managed locally but with the strength and support of a strong parent company, Dairy Farmers of America. Oakhurst has been a strong and supportive employer for the Maine environment and community for years and is committed to maintaining a strong fleet of vehicles. Our team is directed by a working manager with over 30 years of relevant experience that is dedicated to hands-on growth and the safety of his team. In this role you will:
- Perform diagnostic troubleshooting, PM’s and fabrication to all types of equipment in our fleet
- Maintain or repair the typical vehicle systems such as brakes, suspension, air and hydraulic systems
- Troubleshoot all elements related truck and engine diagnostics including electrical and emissions issues
- Service and repair diesel refrigeration units on trucks and trailers
- Perform some fabrication and final setup / commissioning of new vehicles
- Occasionally respond to road calls in our service truck as necessary
Schedule:
BRAND NEW SHIFTS!
- We have recently added a technician position to the team in the interest of implementing a new 4-day work week schedule.
- Final schedules will be developed with input from the technician team to achieve the necessary coverage and repair targets of the shop.
- The manager shares coverage responsibilities as well
- There are no overnight (3rd shifts)
Requirements:

- High School Diploma or GED preferred or three years of relevant experience
- CDL License (Oakhurst will fund acquisition if necessary)
- Maine Inspection License required (Will support/train candidate to acquire)
- Strong ability to properly troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues related to equipment systems
- Typical personal hand tools – shared shop tools for larger equipment
- Good written communication to properly complete work order and DVIR processes
Working Knowledge of:
- Diesel engine maintenance & repair
- Chassis, suspension, brake
- Lift / hydraulic repair
- Welding, minor body repair / light fabrication
- State of Maine Inspection License (can be obtained within a 6-month timeframe)
- Other duties as assigned
