Position Overview:
AEC is seeking an experienced Health and Safety Lead to provide health, safety, and environmental (HSE) leadership and support across our portfolio of construction and maintenance projects. This key role primarily operates on site integrated with our project management and construction teams. The role is ideal for someone who thrives on teamwork, in a fast-paced, outdoor work environment. You’ll be out in the field daily, ensuring safety standards are met and supporting the crew with practical HSE solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Proactively address and anticipate HSE issues on site, ensuring effective communication and education of project personnel
• Ensure HSE plans, policies, and systems are accessible and effectively applied to meet project HSE objectives.
• Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments, adjusting plans to address compliance gaps.
• Ensure safe movement of materials, equipment, and personnel, adhering to HSE standards.
• Promote safety controls, report incidents, and ensure compliance with AEC’s Incident Management Procedure.
• Take immediate action on reported hazards, implementing and reviewing controls as necessary.
• Enforce safety standards and foster a safety-first culture through training, hazard reporting, and corrective actions.
• Lead HSE training and toolbox talks, ensuring personnel meet regulatory requirements.
• Lead HSE investigations on site ensuring thorough root cause analysis, proper reporting, and effective actions
• Ensure adherence to company policies, HSE management systems, and maintain professionalism in all HSE matters
• Maintain up-to-date HSE records, reports, and risk registers, ensuring site-specific and legislative compliance.
• Collaborate with project managers and teams to promote a strong safety culture and ensure safe work practices.
• Contribute to continuous improvement, driving innovation and excellence in safety practices.
Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
• Minimum 7+ years of HSE experience, preferably in the renewable energy sector, solar or wind energy projects would be ideal.
• Qualifications in WHS are highly regarded.
• Knowledge of incident investigation techniques and reporting requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
• Construction Induction Card (White Card) and Open Driver’s License.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment medical as required by clients.
• Proof of working rights in Australia
Location: Head office in Ashgrove, Queensland. This role location and roster will vary depending on the needs of our projects.
