At CooperSurgical we are currently looking to recruit a Laboratory scientist. Our Clinical services within genetic testing are growing, and we are expanding the team. You will be part of a team of thirteen laboratory scientists, reporting to the Laboratory Manager. The position is based at our facilities in London(near to Kings Cross) England.
Location: Onsite, MAYDE Building- N7 9AA
Position
The laboratory performs Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) for PGT-A (Aneuploidies), PGT-SR (Structural Rearrangements), and/or PGT-M (Monogenic or Single Gene Defects). This is an entry level, clinical Laboratory Scientist position, under the direction of the Laboratory Manager.
The daily activities may consist of processing and/or analysis of clinical samples, data management, laboratory & equipment maintenance, consumables and reagent inventory management, or other duties as assigned, in accordance with the Quality Management System (QMS) under ISO 15189:2022.
Sample handling may consist of sample receipt, accession, preparation, processing, analysis, storage and safe disposal. Sample processing may consist of performing Whole Genome Amplification (WGA) via various methods followed by analysis via Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), PCR, GeneScan, Sanger sequencing, or other analytical techniques. The data management may consist of use of paper or electronic systems to ensure immaculate record keeping in accordance with GDPR requirements to maintain patient confidentiality and accurate results and reports. Laboratory, equipment, & reagents management may consist of maintenance, cleaning and inventory management.
Compliance is maintained through strict adherence to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The role as laboratory scientist is vital to the grown plans for our Clinical services, you will be able to excel and develop.
Your key responsibilities
- Receive, accession, and process, analyse, store, report on cases and samples
- Operate manual and automated clinical test instruments and information systems
- Maintain inventory of consumables and reagents, including performance of QC of new reagents.
- Use and maintain equipment
- Adhere to all laboratory’s policies, procedures and codes of practice for all activities assigned under the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Revise/write existing/new SOPs, to reflect current/improved practice.
- Maintain clean, orderly and safe work environment, including laboratory cleaning and maintenance activities.
- Perform concurrent data entry with focus on data integrity, maintaining Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Attend and participate in lab meetings.

- Bachelor or master’s in Biomedical Sciences, Genetics, Biology, Chemistry
- Preferable an MSc in reproductive genetics, women’s health, preimplantation genetics
- + 0 – 2 years of experience from a similar role
- Experience in a regulated environment desired

- Fluent English (spoken and written) is mandatory
