Job Summary:

Performs surveillance, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), while also supporting quality improvement initiatives across the organization. Integrates core infection prevention responsibilities with essential quality and patient safety functions, including chart audits, event reviews, data abstraction, and regulatory reporting. Collaborates with leadership, staff, and physicians to monitor compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)), and supports performance improvement activities that promote patient safety, regulatory readiness, and clinical excellence. Participates in education, data analysis, policy development, and process improvement efforts to advance both infection control and quality goals at a community hospital level.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree: Required
  • Master's Degree: Preferred
  • Two years' relevant experience: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice: Required
  • Infection Control Certification: Required

Essential Functions:

  • Monitors and Investigates Infections in the Hospital. Tracks and reviews hospital-acquired infections by analyzing lab results, patient records, and diagnoses. Identifies infection trends, investigates causes, and recommends prevention strategies to protect patients and staff.
  • Supports Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Activities. Conducts chart audits, reviews reported events, and participates in root cause analyses. Assists in developing action plans to improve care quality and prevent harm.
  • Ensures Compliance with Regulatory Standards. Monitors hospital practices to ensure they meet infection prevention and quality-related requirements from The Joint Commission, CMS, and other agencies. Helps prepare for inspections and accreditation surveys.
  • Provides Education to Staff on Infection Prevention and Quality. Develops and delivers training on how to prevent infections and improve patient care. Supports new employee orientation and ongoing education for clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Analyzes and Reports Data. Collects, summarizes, and shares infection prevention and quality data with leadership, medical staff, and committees. Prepares reports to support decision-making and regulatory requirements.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
