Key Responsibilities

Ensure team performance is at the required level by coordinating with the management to obtain required manpower, monitor performance of team members, provide feedback and identify training needs.
Ensure expenses are in line with the budget by assisting in preparing the departmental budget whilst, monitoring and controlling same.
Perform the following activities at the plant in order to facilitate smooth operations:
- Implement sustainability and energy saving initiatives such as Energy saving projects: Reducing 10% of all bills thereby, ensuring optimum use of water, power and energy.
- Monitor power and generator operating costs and take action whilst, following-up on variances from the standard levels.
- Coordinate with the Ceylon Electricity Board and the Board of Investment on all power related issues.
- Monitor and inform electricians of costs saved on electricity and generator fuel consumption.
Oversee the execution of plant expansion projects by managing the Capital Expenditure cost, and ensuring the accuracy and timely completion of same thereby, meeting the set deadlines.
Completing project work with the selected suppliers/contractors according to the agreed quality standards and timelines whilst assuring the safety of all parties involved in.
Assess resource requirements, provide information for the preparation of annual budgets and monitor and control departmental overheads in order to ensure expenditure is within the stipulated budget.
Ensure to come up with innovative ideas to increase productivity and minimize standard minute value thereby, facilitating high productivity and efficiency levels.
Manage and implement all activities pertaining to Sustainability initiatives as the Champion of same in order to increase productivity.
Ensure that the following is carried out whilst, educating all subordinates in order to create a compliant and safe work environment:
- Assist in the implementation and maintenance of customer compliance whilst, ensuring strict adherence to all product safety, health and safety policies, environmental and 5S systems within the organization whilst, ensuring the continuous improvement of same.
- Sustain and implement ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 within the SBU.
Implement sustainability initiatives such as energy saving methods in order to improve on carbon emission levels to the environment.
Facilitate the safety aspect of the organization by coordinating with the fire team and ensure all safety equipment is in order by performing the following activities:
Train the fire team on fire drill procedures and rescue measures
Carry out fire drills as per compliance requirements whilst, maintaining the fire extinguishers
Ensure employees understand the emergency evacuation process and place relevant sign boards whilst, educating employees on same.

Knowledge and Skills:

Degree in Mechanical Engineering
5 to 6 years of hands-on experience in a senior mechanical role within a large-scale apparel manufacturing environment serving premium global customers.
Demonstrated ability to drive machine efficiency, minimize downtime, and support continuous production improvement initiatives
Strong technical knowledge of industrial sewing machines (e.g., JUKI, Brother, Pegasus, and Shingling).
Sound understanding of garment construction, production sequences, and machinery integration.
Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage teams and work under tight production timelines.
Experience in implementing preventive maintenance schedules and best practices.
Familiarity with non-sewing plant equipment such as mini boilers, air compressors, and bonding machines.
