The Opportunity:

To conduct research funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (ESPRC) to develop a novel and preventative solution to catheter-related thrombosis and infection. The project will require the use of an in vivo model of catheter-based thrombosis that will be analysed using a broad range of techniques (e.g., histology, immunohistochemistry, ELISA and imaging). 

To contribute to the development of new ideas, approaches, concepts or techniques, to the overall direction and management of this research project, and to publishing or otherwise disseminating the outputs of the research.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. 

The post is fixed term for 11 months. The salary for this post is at Grade UE07: £ 41,064 to £48,822 per annum, pro-rata if part-time. An appointment above Step 1 on the grade scale may result in a shorter contract duration due to budget limitations.

 

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • Appropriate degree, with relevant post-graduate research experience and accumulated knowledge.
  • A PhD or equivalent professional qualification and/or experience in the field of Cardiovascular Science.
  • Experience in molecular biology, analytical techniques, and histology. 
  • Home Office Licence Module 1-4 or equivalent training (with surgical expertise). 
  • Strong planning and organising skills.
