The primary responsibility of the registrar is to assure complete and accurate data is collected, reported and maintained for all injured patients meeting the inclusion criteria for the trauma program. The registrar must work with numerous disciplines to ensure complete case findings. The registrar must keep current with all changes and requirements of the American College of Surgeons National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB) and Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), State of Wisconsin Trauma and maintain compliance with their standards. The registrar will assist with the performance of epidemiology disease-related research including primarily the study of trauma for the Mayo Trauma Center and, when applicable, the Wisconsin Trauma Registry affiliated with the state trauma program.
Requires minimum of an Associate's degree (AAS) in Health Information Management (HIM) or other health related field with strong emphasis on anatomy, physiology and medical terminology. Understanding of coding and abstraction of data with data entry experience are required. PC skills, both keyboarding and experience with computer applications, and evidence of ability to work collaboratively and professionally with others, at all levels of responsibility. Individual must be detail oriented, thorough, and independent with managing a defined workload to meet deadlines.
A medical record background is preferred. Previous experience working with cancer, stroke, cardiac or trauma registries is preferred. If not previously completed, the following must be completed within 18 months of hire: 1.) participate in and complete the most recent version of the Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine's Injury Scaling Course (AIS or CAISS Certification) 2.) participate in a trauma registry course 3.) participate in an ICD-10 course, as well as a refresher course every 5 years. 4) For Level I and II Trauma Centers: Accrue 24 hours of trauma related continuing education every three years. 5) TQIP monthly education participation.
Certification as a Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) is preferred.
