Internship

Do you want to dive in the fast-growing industry of drones and get a rewarding experience in a dynamic start-up environment?

At Flyability, we believe that robots should be sent into hazardous places and dangerous situations instead of humans. To support our belief, we created Elios, the world’s first collision-tolerant flying robot that for the first time allows remote entry to complex and indoor spaces. With more than 100 employees, Flyability is the pioneer in the UAV indoor inspection industry. Joining Flyability is not just taking on a new job, it is seizing the opportunity to improve the life of millions of people and build the future of robotics.

There could be an option to convert the internship into a permanent position, depending on your success and on business circumstances.

To complete our creative and dynamic team in Lausanne, we are seeking a:

Cloud Operations Engineering Intern (100%)
Starting date: as soon as possible (flexible within the next 1–3 months)

Your role:

You’ll work with our engineering team to help keep Flyability Cloud healthy, secure, and available for our users. Together, you’ll handle day-to-day cloud operations while learning to improve our stack—using tools such as AWS, Terraform, Keycloak for IAM, PostgreSQL, and Datadog/CloudTrail for observability. Your work will range from automating deployment and recovery procedures to troubleshooting access issues, analysing logs, and improving visibility, backups and security. By the end of your internship, you’ll have delivered practical improvements (for example a deployment script, a restore runbook, or a new dashboard) and shared your learning through clear documentation. You’ll work with a named mentor and have regular check-ins to plan, review and learn.

What you will own:

  • Collaborate on access requests and investigate user access issues
  • Consult Datadog and CloudTrail to analyse incidents and understand system behaviour
  • Automate routine tasks with Python and simple scripts to reduce manual work
  • Support deployments to staging and production, including upgrades of services and dependencies
  • Run and document backup and restore tests to confirm data recovery procedures
  • Enhance monitoring, alerting, and logging to improve visibility and response time
  • Contribute to security checks and configuration hygiene across AWS, Keycloak (IAM), PostgreSQL, and related services, including gathering compliance evidence
  • Maintain and improve runbooks and internal documentation for common operations and recovery steps
  • Participate in incident triage and post-incident reviews under guidance
  • Contribute small improvements to infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform) where applicable, and work with Docker and our Kubernetes stack.

Requirements

Your profile:

  • You are currently enrolled in, or have recently completed, a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • We also highly value candidates with a professional or technical background, such as those with a Swiss CFC/ES in IT with a focus on operations or infrastructure.
  • Experience with some of the following: Linux fundamentals, networking basics, databases (e.g., PostgreSQL), scripting (Python and/or Bash), version control (git), and basic CI/CD concepts.
  • Interest in cloud platforms (AWS or similar) and in making operations safer, clearer, and easier to run.
  • Coursework or projects that show practical problem-solving, careful testing, and clear documentation.
  • Solid working competence in English (at least B2 level). French is a plus.
  • Curious and collaborative team player who isn't afraid to ask questions.
  • Careful and methodical approach to changes, with an eye for security and reliability.
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong commitment to maintaining up-to-date documentation.

Flyability is a young Swiss company that values independent thinking combined with a collaborative spirit. Every day, you will have the opportunity to share your ideas and contribute to solving problems. We all work together, and each voice is important to move forward.
